Denlinger ties Division II home run record in KU sweep

SAVANNAH, Ga. — The 11th-ranked Kutztown University
softball team swept their doubleheader with Armstrong Atlantic State
on Saturday afternoon, winning by scores of 3-2 and 4-1.
Steph
Denlinger (sr. Harleysville/Souderton) tied the
Division II career home run record, with a two-run blast in the
first inning of the first game. The home run is the 62nd of her
career which ties her with Jackie Aiken of Wisconsin-Parkside, who
set the record from 1994-97.

Kim
Morrison (sr. Newmartket, ONT/Sir William Mulock), who
reached base on one her three doubles on the day, jumping out to an
early 2-0 lead. Morrison finished the game a perfect 4-for-4.
The Golden Bears (11-5) tacked on
another run in the fourth on an RBI single by
Sara Golden
(fr. Souderton/Souderton) to knock in
Nicole
Colineri (fr. Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood).
Armstrong Atlantic managed scored in
the bottom of the fourth and the bottom of the seventh, but came up
just short against
Katlin
Arbogast (jr. Ambler/Wissahickon). Arbogast improved her
record to 7-3 after scattering six hits and striking out five.
The second game started with KU plated
two runners in each of the first two innings, accounting for all of
their runs.
Krista
Cameron (sr. Formosa, ONT/Sacred Heart) led the
offense with two hits and two RBIs for the Golden Bears (12-5).
Ashley Fitzgerald (sr. Kitchener, ONT/Resurrection) knocked in a run
while going 2-for-4 at the plate.
Monica
Glomb (so. Mars/Mars) picked up the win with a
complete game four-hitter while striking out six Pirate (12-12)
batters.
The Golden Bears wrapped up their
southern road trip with the two wins over Armstrong Atlantic and
went 7-3 at the Rebel Spring Games in Florida. The softball team
will return to action Friday through Saturday at the Glenville
Invitational starting at 2 p.m. against West Liberty State.
