KU slams 10 homers in sweep of East Stroudsburg, wins PSAC East
title
EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa.
— It was raining home runs for the reigning Pennsylvania State
Athletic Conference East champions, a title the 2009 Golden Bears
retained for a third straight season Tuesday.
The No. 9-ranked Kutztown University
softball team hit 10 home runs in its doubleheaders sweep of East
Stroudsburg to collect the school's third consecutive PSAC East
title.
KU (38-7-1, 13-1 PSAC
East) won 7-2 in nine innings in game one and 17-10 in game two.
Krista Cameron (sr. Formosa, ONTARIO/Sacred Heart)
led the home run party, hitting three in the Golden Bears' wild
17-10 win. That included two in KU's 10-run fifth inning.
Heather Hannum (fr. Hatboro/Hatboro-Horsham)
also had three home runs in the sweep, including a three-run shot in
the five-run ninth of game one.
Steph Denlinger (sr. Harleysville/Souderton),
who tied the NCAA Division II all-time record for walks with 145,
had two homers.
She now has 145 walks, knotted with Taiisha Pleasant, of Humboldt
St. (1997-00).
She also upped her season total for
home runs to 20 and career to 76.
As PSAC East champions, the Golden
Bears will host one of three first round PSAC playoff tournaments on
April 24 and 25. The winners of the three tournaments will play on
May 3 in the PSAC championship round.
KU will
return home for a PSAC crossover doubleheader against Bloomsburg at
3 p.m. Friday at North Campus Field.

Hannum’s
homer caps five-run extra-inning rally
EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa.

Heather Hannum (fr. Hatboro/Hatboro-Horsham)
highlighted a five-run ninth inning in the Golden Bears’ 7-2 win
over East Stroudsburg in the first game of their doubleheader.
The Warriors jumped out to a 2-0 lead with single tallies in the
first two innings, but KU’s
Kim Morrison (sr. Newmarket, ONTARIO /Sir William Mulock)
hit a two-run home run to tie the game in the top of the third.
The Golden Bears stranded nine runners over the next five innings
before using back-to-back one-out walks to spark a rally.
Steph Denlinger (sr. Harleysville/Souderton)
and
Ashley Fitzgerald (sr. Kitchener, ONTARIO/Resurrection)
drew consecutive walks, and
Krista Cameron (sr. Formosa, ONTARIO/Sacred Heart)
hit an RBI single to break the 2-2 deadlock.
Krista Tedjeske (so. Summerhill/Forest Hills)
followed with an RBI double, and Hannum hit a two-out home run to
left field to give KU the 7-2 lead.
Mary Hoch (so. Somerton/St. Hubert)
earned her 12th win of the season, throwing five shutout innings.
She allowed just four hits, a walk and struck out six.
KU pitchers Hoch,
Monica Glomb (so. Mars/Mars)
and starter
Katlin Arbogast (jr. Ambler/Wissahickon)
combined to strike out 11 in the game.
Cameron and Hannum each finished 2-for-4, and Denlinger was
2-for-3 with two walks.
Home run derby
for KU leads to 17-10 win

to take a 9-4 lead, but the Golden Bears still had some power left
in them.
Krista
Cameron (sr. Formosa, ONTARIO/Sacred Heart)
hit two of three homers in KU’s 10-run fifth inning in a 17-10 win
in game two.
Cameron added another two-run homer in
the seventh inning. She finished 3-for-5 with six RBIs and three
runs scored.
Denlinger was 3-for-4 with five RBIs and
four runs scored. She also walked once to tie
the NCAA record for free passes in a career. She now has 145,
knotted with Taiisha Pleasant, of Humboldt St. (1997-00).
Heather

also hit two homers, going 2-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs
scored.
Ashley
Fitzgerald (sr. Kitchener, ONTARIO/Resurrection)
homered in the 10-run fifth, finishing 2-for-2 with two RBIs, three
runs scored and two walks.
Sara Golden (fr.
Souderton/Souderton),
Maggie
Reifsnyder (so. Philadelphia/Littleflower)
and
Maria Schiavo
(jr. Old Forge/Old Forge)
each had two hits for KU. Schiavo scored twice, and she and Golden
each had an RBI. Golden also scored a run.
Mary Hoch
(so. Somerton/St. Hubert)
picked up her second win on the day and 13th of the season, pitching
the final three innings for KU. She limited East Stroudsburg to one
run on two hits and a walk.
