KU HOME OPENER VS. GEORGIAN COURT

KUTZTOWN, Pa. —
The Kutztown University softball team swept its 2009 home opener
with Georgian Court in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday
afternoon at North Campus Field.
The Golden Bears (18-5),
ranked No. 11 by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA),
are coming off a four wins at the Glenville Invitational
last weekend, outscoring their opponents 39-1. Squaring off with the
Golden Bears were the Lions (9-5) rank just behind KU at No. 12.

DENLINGER'S EIGHTH
INNING HOMER POWER KU TO WIN
KUTZTOWN, Pa. —
Steph
Denlinger (sr. Harleysville/Souderton) added to her NCAA
Division II career home run record, with a walk-off two-run home run
in the Golden Bears 4-3 win over Georgian Court at North Campus
Field on Tuesday.
After the Lions (9-4) got a run in the
top of the eighth, KU started off trying to manufacture a run.
Maria
Schiavo (jr. Old Forge/Old Forge) was put on second base to
start the inning, per the International tie-breaker rules, and was
moved to third on a sacrifice by
Kim
Morrison (sr. Newmartket, ONT/Sir William Mulock).
Denlinger knocked the 1-0 fastball over
the fence in right-center field to give the Golden Bears (17-5) a
win in their home opener.
The Golden Bears trailed 2-0 heading
into the fourth inning, but were able to tie it to set up the
late-game heroics.
Ashley Fitzgerald (sr. Kitchener, ONT/Resurrection) reached
second on a deep fly that popped out of the centerfielders glove at
the warning track. Pinch runner
Cassie
Eiden (fr. Scranton/Scranton) scored on a single by
Michelle McGinty (fr. Warminster/Archbishop Wood). McGinty
advanced to second on the throw to home and was knocked in by
Maggie Reifsnyder (so. Philadlephia/Littleflower) to tie the
game.
Katlin
Arbogast (jr. Ambler/Wissahickon) allowed two runs in the
first inning, but settled down from that point on. She earned her
10th win of the season, limiting GCU to only three hits and striking
out 12.
KU FINISH SWEEP OF GCU
WITH 8-1 WIN
KUTZTOWN, Pa. —
The Kutztown University softball team finished off the sweep of
Geogian Court with an 8-1 on Tuesday afternoon at North Campus
Field.
The Golden Bears (18-5)
jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Krista
Cameron (sr. Formosa, ONT/Sacred Heart) doubled home
Kim
Morrison (sr. Newmartket, ONT/Sir William Mulock) and
Steph
Denlinger (sr. Harleysville/Souderton).
Maggie
Reifsnyder (so. Philadlephia/Littleflower) added a two-run
double in the fourth to put the game out of reach in the fourth.
Cameron was a perfect 4-for-4 at the
dish with three RBIs and three doubles. Morrison finished hte game
2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.
Picking up the win on the mound was
Monica
Glomb (so. Mars/Mars), with five innings of work and seven
strikeouts.
Mary Hoch (so. Somerton/St. Hubert) finished off the
final two innings without allowing a hit and striking out one.
The Golden Bears will return to action
on Wednesday for a doubleheader at the University of Sciences at 3
p.m.
