HOLY FAMILY SNAPS KU'S SEVEN GAME WINNING STREAK

March 5, 2009

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Kutztown's seven-game winning streak was halted by a 4-3 loss to Holy Family in the Golden Bears final game at the Rebel Spring Games Thursday.

Holy Family snapped a 3-3 tie with an unearned run in the fifth inning off reliever Katlin Arbogast (jr. Ambler/Wissahickon) (6-3).

Krista Cameron (sr. Formosa, ONT/Sacred Heart), who was 2-for-3, and Kim Morrison (sr. Newmartket, ONT/Sir William Mulock) had doubles for the Golden Bears

Kutztown falls to 10-5 on the season.  The Golden Bears will stop in Savannah, Ga., for a doubleheader at Armstrong Atlantic State, before heading back north.

DENLINGER'S 61st CAREER HR LEADS KU OVER EDINBORO

March 5, 2009

KISSIMMEE, Fla.Steph Denlinger (sr. Harleysville/Souderton) hit the 61st home run of her career, one short of the NCAA Division II record, as Kutztown defeated PSAC foe Edinboro, 7-2, at the Rebel Spring Games Thursday.

Katlin Arbogast (jr. Ambler/Wissahickon) struck out eight over seven innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits.  She improves to 6-2 on the season as KU ups its record to 10-4.

SEVENTH INNING WALKS HAND KU 1-0 WIN OVER MARY

March 4, 2009

KISSIMMEE, Fla.Four walks in the bottom of the seventh gave the Kutztown University softball team to a 1-0 shutout win over University of Mary Wednesday at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla.

Krista Cameron (sr. Formosa, ONTARIO/Sacred Heart) drew a walk in the bottom of the seventh to plate Sara Golden (fr. Souderton/Souderton), who was the first of four free passes issued in the inning.

Katlin Arbogast (jr. Ambler/Wissahickon) picked up her fifth win of the season, pitching 5 2/3 innings in relief of starter Monica Glomb (so. Mars/Mars). Arbogast struck out 10 batters, while holding the University of Mary to just two hits.

Krista Tedjeske (so. Summerhill/Forest Hills) was 2-for-3 in the game with a double for KU.

KU (9-4) will close out the Rebel Spring Games with two games Thursday. The Golden Bears will match up against Edinboro at 1 p.m. and Holy Family at 3 p.m.

DENLINGER APPROACHING NCAA HOME RUN RECORD, KU WINS

KISSIMMEE, Fla. Steph Denlinger (sr. Harleysville/Souderton) hit a two-run home run to lead the Kutztown University softball team to a 4-2 win over Kentucky-Wesleyan in 10 innings Wednesday at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla.

Denlinger now has 60 home runs in her career, two away from tying the NCAA Division II record for home runs.

Her fourth blast of the season was a two-run shot in the top of the 10th, breaking a deadlock to give relief pitcher Katlin Arbogast (jr. Ambler/Wissahickon) the win.

Arbogast pitched four innings, holding Kentucky-Wesleyan to no runs and four hits, while striking out six.

Monica Glomb (so. Mars/Mars) started for KU, striking out two over 1 2/3 innings of work, and Mary Hoch (so. Somerton/St. Hubert) pitched 4 1/3 innings of relief, holding Kentucky-Wesleyan to three hits.

Krista Tedjeske (so. Summerhill/Forest Hills) also hit a homer for KU, and Ashley Fitzgerald (sr. Kitchener, ONTARIO /Resurrection) hit a double.

Maria Schiavo (jr. Old Forge/Old Forge) went 2-for-5, while Sara Golden (fr. Souderton/Souderton) scored on Denlinger’s homer in the 10th.

GOLDEN AND CAMERON HOMER IN KU'S 8-0 WIN

March 2, 2009

KISSIMMEE, Fla. Sara Golden (fr. Souderton/Souderton) hit a two-run homer run, the first of her KU career, in an 8-0 win over Northwood (Fla.) Monday afternoon.

Golden belted the full-count pitch over the fence to give the Golden Bears (7-4) an 8-0 lead, which ended the game due to the eight-run rule being in effect.

Krista Cameron (sr. Formosa, ONT/Sacred Heart) added a home run, her first of the season, to help KU win their fourth straight game at the Rebel Spring Games. Steph Denlinger (sr. Harleysville/Souderton) had a 2-for-3 showing at the plate, including two doubles.

Kim Morrison (sr. Newmartket, ONT/Sir William Mulock) and Krista Tedjeske (so. Summerhill/Forest Hills) each went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.

Picking up the mound victory was Mary Hoch (so. Somerton/St. Hubert) with five shutout innings. Hoch limited the Seahawks (3-13) only three hits and struck out two.

The Golden Bears will continue the Rebel Spring Games on Wednesday at 9 a.m. to take on Kentucky Wesleyan and at 3 p.m. against Mary (N.D.).


DENLINGER AND ARBOGAST POWER KU TO WIN

March 2, 2009

KISSIMMEE, Fla. Steph Denlinger (sr. Harleysville/Souderton) led the offense and Katlin Arbogast (jr. Ambler/Wissahickon) threw a complete game in the Golden Bears' 6-3 win over Mt. Olive at the Rebel Spring Games on Monday afternoon.

Denlinger was 2-for-3 with a home run, her third for the Golden Bears (6-4) this season. Kim Morrison (sr. Newmartket, ONT/Sir William Mulock) was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, including two doubles, and Maggie Reifsnyder (so. Philadlephia/Littleflower) added a double.

Arbogast went the distance to earn the win, holding Mt. Olive (7-5-1) to only three runs. She had 10 strikeouts and surrendered one walk.

The Golden Bears will take on Northwood (Fla.) this afternoon at 3 p.m.

GLOMB'S NO-HITTER LEADS KU TO VICTORY

March 1, 2009

KISSIMMEE, Fla. Monica Glomb (so. Mars/Mars) pitched a no-hitter in the Golden Bear's 14-0 rout of Lake Erie on Sunday afternoon at the Rebel Spring Games.

Glomb's pitching gem included 11 strikeouts to one walk in only six innings of work due to the eight-run rule.

The Golden Bear (5-4) offense was sparked by Krista Cameron (sr. Formosa, ONT/Sacred Heart) with a pair of triples and Ashley Fitzgerald (sr. Kitchener, ONT/Resurrection) with a double.

KU scored in bunches with four runs in the third, two runs in the fifth and eight in the sixth. The Golden Bears knocked out 13 hits in the game.

KU swept its games on the second day at the Rebel Spring Games and will continue Monday with a game at 11 a.m. against Mt. Olive and 3 p.m. against Northwood (Fla.).


Kutztown 4, University of Sciences 3

March 1, 2009

KISSIMMEE, Fla. The Golden Bears picked up a 4-3 win against the University of Sciences on Sunday morning at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida.

The deciding run came off of a two-out double by Ashley Fitzgerald (sr. Kitchener, ONT/Resurrection) in the sixth inning.

The Golden Bears (4-4) jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the first and one in the second, but the University of Sciences (0-1) battled back with three in the fifth to tie the game up.

Katlin Arbogast (jr. Ambler/Wissahickon) pitched the first four innings, allowing only one run and striking out five. Mary Hoch (so. Somerton/St. Hubert) struck out two batters in her inning of work and Monica Glomb (so. Mars/Mars) went the final two innings allowing one hit and no runs.

Steph Denlinger (sr. Harleysville/Souderton) led the offense with two doubles and a 3-for-3 day at the plate.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. The Golden Bear offense was held to just one hit in their 1-0 loss to Lewis in their second Rebel Spring Game.

The lone run came in the sixth inning off of a Lisa Gartland home run. Dana Pickrum pitched a complete game, with four strikeouts, while keeping the Golden Bears' bats silent.

Monica Glomb (so. Mars/Mars) pitched the entire game, allowing only two hits, while striking out four.


KU DROPS FIRST REBEL SPRING GAMES

Feb. 28, 2009

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The Kutztown University softball team dropped its opening game of the Rebel Spring Games on Saturday morning by a score of 5-2 against the New York Institute of Technology.

The Golden Bears (3-3) fell behind 3-0 in the first inning, and NYIT tacked on a run in the fourth and fifth to extend its lead to 5-0. KU cut the lead to 5-2 with two runs in the sixth off of a Steph Denlinger (sr. Harleysville/Souderton) home run, her second of the season.

Katlin Arbogast (jr. Ambler/Wissahickon) went 4 2/3 innings, surrendering five runs and five hits while striking out four. Mary Hoch (so. Somerton/St. Hubert) pitched an in inning and a third of no hit relief and one strikeout.

NYIT got a complete game effort out of Nina Cesare. Cesare struck out seven Golden Bears and allowed only five hits and two runs.

Kim Morrison (sr. Newmartket, ONT/Sir William Mulock) led the KU offense going 2-for-3.
