KU splits doubleheader with Shippensburg
SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.

Ashley Fitzgerald (sr. Kitchener, ONTARIO/Resurrection)
homered twice Thursday, but it wasn’t enough as the Kutztown
University softball team split its doubleheader with Shippensburg.
The Red Raiders held the Golden Bears to a total of eight hits in
the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East doubleheader.
Two of those hits were home runs from Fitzgerald, including a
three-run shot in a 3-1 game two win. Shippensburg (20-14, 8-4 PSAC
East) won game one 2-1.
KU (36-7-1, 11-1 PSAC East) remains in first place of the PSAC East
and needs just one win to clinch the division title, the school’s
third straight.
The Golden Bears will return to the field on Tuesday with a 2:30
p.m. PSAC East doubleheader at East Stroudsburg. KU’s PSAC
crossover doubleheader at Slippery Rock scheduled for Saturday has
been canceled and will not be made up.

Knopf shuts down KU on the mound, hits game-winning homer
SHIPPENSBURG,
Pa. —
The Red Raiders kept the Golden Bears’ bats silent throughout most
of the first game of their doubleheader, limiting KU to four hits in
a 2-1 loss.
Ashley Fitzgerald (sr. Kitchener, ONTARIO/Resurrection)
scored the only run, hitting a solo home run in the top of the
fourth to tie the game at 1-1.
Shippensburg, which scored in the first
innings, scored the eventual game-winner on a home run from pitcher
Lori Knopf.
Knopft pitched all seven innings,
striking out nine. She allowed one run on four hits and one walk.
Krista Cameron (sr. Formosa, ONTARIO/Sacred Heart)
finished 2-for-3 for KU with a double.

hit a home run in the top of the fifth to break a scoreless tie and
lead the Golden Bears to a 3-1 win in the second game of their
doubleheader with Shippensburg.
Sara Golden (fr. Souderton/Souderton)
led off the fifth with a single and
Steph Denlinger (sr. Harleysville/Souderton)
drew an intentional walk with two outs before Fitzgerald homered to
center field.
The walk for Denlinger moves her into sole possession of second
place on the NCAA Division II career walks list. She now has 142 and
needs three more to tie the all-time record.
Mary Hoch (so. Somerton/St. Hubert)
picked up her 11th win of the season, allowing one unearned run on
six hits. She struck out five in seven innings of work.
