KUTZTOWN, PA (December 8, 2009) - The Kutztown
University softball team has released its lengthy 2010 schedule.
(Complete Schedule)
The Golden Bears will begin the season against West
Virginia State on Feb. 5 at the UNC Pembroke Spring Tournament to
kick start the 40-plus game schedule. As they have done in each of
the past six seasons, the Golden Bears will look to extend the
season into May with a run in the Pennsylvania State Athletic
Conference playoffs.
February will end with the Catawba Tournament in
North Caroline
followed by the annual spring break trip to Florida. This year's
spring break trip will be held at Clermont from March
5-14.
Shortly after returning from Florida, the Golden Bears will
travel for a nonconference doubleheader with Goldey Beacom on March
16. Two day later, KU opens conference play with a doubleheader at
West Chester on March 18, followed by a weekend tournament in Salem,
Va.
KU will finally have the luxury of playing on its home turf
in the
final weekend of March with a PSAC
Eastern Division doubleheader against East Stroudsburg.
The PSAC, which is separated into three divisions, will see
road-and-home doubleheaders with the Eastern Division's WCU, ESU,
Millersville and Shippensburg.
After finishing first in the Eastern Division, KU will face
Central Division and NCAA Division II champ Lock Haven. They will
travel for a doubleheader with Bloomsburg (Central Division) and
host Gannon (Western Division) to complete the PSAC crossover
schedule.
The PSAC playoffs will be played Friday April 23, with the
finals set for Saturday May 1.
The Golden Bears, who fell in the NCAA Super Regional to Lock
Haven in 2008, will return pitching staff ace Katlin Arbogast
(Ambler/Wissahickon). Maria Schiavo (Old Forge/Old Forge),
Heather Hannum (Hatboro/Hatboro-Horsham) and Krista
Tedjeske (Summerhill/Forest Hills) are key offensive returnees.
