MILLERSVILLE, Pa. — The Kutztown University women’s volleyball team tied a school record for wins in a season in a 3-0 win over Millersville Tuesday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East match.

Austin Kinney (jr. Landisville/Hempfield) also hit a career milestone in the Golden Bears’ 25th win of the season, which matches KU’s 1983 and 1984 season totals.

Kinney’s 14 digs put her over 1,000 for her career with 1,013, becoming just the fifth KU player to surpass the 1,000-dig mark. Teammate Nicole Biuso (sr. Centereach, N.Y./Ward Melville), who had 27 digs Tuesday, joins her on that list with more than 2,000 digs, a school record.

Kinney also had 48 assists, helping the Golden Bears KU (25-7, 7-1 PSAC East) down Millersville (13-19, 3-5 PSAC East) in three games, 32-30, 32-30 and 30-20.

Kelsey Nester (fr. Catasauqua/ Catasauqua) had a team-high 14 kills and Lindsay Confer (fr. Wingate/Bald Eagle Area) had 12. Kaitlyn Cunliffe (fr. Levittown/Pennsbury) and Katie Miller (so. Elizabethtown/Elizabethtown) each had nine kills, and Cunliffe had 16 digs.

Erin Waters (sr. Waymart/Western Wayne) finished with eight kills and three blocks.

KU will return home for an 11 a.m. non-conference match against New York Tech Saturday, before closing out its regular season home schedule with Shippensburg at 7 p.m., Oct. 30.

Shippensburg defeated West Chester Tuesday, making the Red Raiders 8-0 in the PSAC East. The Golden Bears, assuming that both teams win their final PSAC East matches of the season (KU vs. East Stroudsburg, Shippensburg vs. Cheyney) will have to defeat Shippensburg 3-0 to force tie-breaking rules to decide the regular season title.

Shippensburg defeated KU 3-0 on Sept. 25 for the Golden Bears’ only loss in the PSAC East. The winner of the PSAC East will host the PSAC Championships on Nov. 9-10.
