STROUDSBURG, Pa. — The Kutztown University women’s volleyball
team split a pair of games Saturday in the final day of the East
Stroudsburg Friendship Tournament.
KU (22-5) fell in
three straight games to Dowling before defeating the University of
Massachusetts-Lowell 3-1.
Against
Dowling, Kaitlyn Cunliffe (fr. Levittown/Pennsbury) posted 10
kills and 18 digs as the Golden Bears lost 30-28, 30-27 and 30-23.
Nicole Biuso (sr. Centereach, N.Y./Ward
Melville) had 23 digs. Biuso's 23 digs handed her the
single-season school record for digs, and her four service aces put
her in first place in KU history with 153 career digs, passing Dani
Witherite (2003-06), who had 151. Biuso now has 580 digs in 2007,
which bests the original record of 532 set by Missy Klein (2002).
Her career total is currently at 1,978 digs, which is already No. 1
in school history.
Jamie Celia (fr. Douglassville/Daniel Boone) had 31 assists
and 11 digs, while Erin Waters (sr. Waymart/Western
Wayne) recorded seven kills and four blocks in the loss.
UMass-Lowell took game two 30-27 after
falling 30-25 in game one, but KU swept the final two games, winning
30-16 and 30-22, for the win.
Waters had 13 kills and eight blocks,
and Katie Miller (so. Elizabethtown/Elizabethtown) had a
team-high 15 kills. Confer chipped in with 11 kills and Biuso had 43
digs. Celia finished with 54 assists.
Cunliffe, who had 10 kills in the
tournament opener Friday against C.W. Post, was named to the
All-Tournament team.
KU will travel to West Chester at 7 p.m.
Tuesday for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East contest.

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — Kutztown defeated C.W. Post 3-0 in its first
match at the East Stroudsburg Friendship Tournament Friday night.
Lindsay Confer had 11 kills and
15 digs to lead the Golden Bears. Erin Waters, Katie
Miller and Kaitlin Cunliffe added 10 kills apiece.
Nicole Biuso had 28 digs, while Austin Kinney dished
out 46 assists.
Kutztown improves to 21-4 on the season.
The Golden Bears will face Dowling and UMass-Lowell on Saturday.
