EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — The Kutztown University women’s volleyball team split a pair of games Saturday in the final day of the East Stroudsburg Friendship Tournament.

KU (22-5) fell in three straight games to Dowling before defeating the University of Massachusetts-Lowell 3-1.

Nicole Biuso (sr. Centereach, N.Y./Ward Melville) had 23 digs. Biuso's 23 digs handed her the single-season school record for digs, and her four service aces put her in first place in KU history with 153 career digs, passing Dani Witherite (2003-06), who had 151. Biuso now has 580 digs in 2007, which bests the original record of 532 set by Missy Klein (2002). Her career total is currently at 1,978 digs, which is already No. 1 in school history.

Jamie Celia (fr. Douglassville/Daniel Boone) had 31 assists and 11 digs, while Erin Waters (sr. Waymart/Western Wayne) recorded seven kills and four blocks in the loss.

UMass-Lowell took game two 30-27 after falling 30-25 in game one, but KU swept the final two games, winning 30-16 and 30-22, for the win.

Waters had 13 kills and eight blocks, and Katie Miller (so. Elizabethtown/Elizabethtown) had a team-high 15 kills. Confer chipped in with 11 kills and Biuso had 43 digs. Celia finished with 54 assists.

Cunliffe, who had 10 kills in the tournament opener Friday against C.W. Post, was named to the All-Tournament team.

KU will travel to West Chester at 7 p.m. Tuesday for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East contest.
