SHIPPENSBURG,
PA - Kutztown won a pair of matches on the first day of the
Raider Classic at Shippensburg University Friday.
In the first match,
KU outlasted Limestone College in five games. Game scores were
25-30, 30-20, 30-21, 28-30 and 15-4. In the second match, KU
blanked Davis & Elkins. Game scores were 30-23, 30-23 and
30-26.
Against Limestone, Lindsay
Confer (fr. Wingate/Bald Eagle Area) led the offense with 21
kills. Erin Waters (sr. Waymart/Western Wayne) notched
13 kills and eight blocks. Kelsey Nester (fr.
Catasauqua/Catasauqua) had six kills and eight blocks.
Kaitlyn Cunliffe (fr. Levittown/Neshaminy) and Katie Miller
(so. Elizabethtown/Elizabethtown) notched nine kills apiece.
Nicole Biuso
(sr. Centereach, NY/Ward Melville) had 21 digs and three
service aces. The aces give her 131 for her career, moving
into second place on KU's career list past Mary Kate Strine (129,
2000-03).
Austin Kinney (jr. Landisville/Hempfield)
rounded out the team leaders with 50 assists and three aces.
Against D&E,
Waters had 12 kills and three blocks. Confer
tallied 12 kills. Kinney dished 41 assists and had 13
digs. Biuso recorded 14 digs and Miller notched
nine kills.
Biuso now has 1,439 career
digs, 40 shy of KU's all-time record (Dani Witherite, 2003-06).
KU improves to 3-0 with the win.
The Golden Bears return to action at the Shippensbur Raider Classic
on Saturday.
