— The Kutztown University women's volleyball team opened up
the 2008 season with a 3-0 win over Mercy College in the Kutztown
Classic at Keystone Hall Friday.
The Golden Bears,
led by 20 assists and 10 digs from
Jamie Celia (so. Douglassville/Daniel Boone), won 25-11,
25-10 and 25-14 in straight sets to open the tournament.
Kelsey Nester (so. Catasauqua/Catasauqua) led the offensive
charge with nine kills and one block.
Danielle Ozment (so. Reading/Holy Name) had six kills and
Katie Miller (jr. Elizabethtown/Elizabethtown) had five.
Miller also had two blocks.
Newcomer
Cali
Snell (fr. York/York Suburban) had three blocks and three
kills in her first collegiate match.
Lindsey Smith (fr. Hanover/Delone Catholic), at libero, had
11 digs for the Golden Bears.
Shedeiky Hamilton
led Mercy with six kills and Crasheena Ward and Diana Bruzzone each
had nine digs.

— The Stonehill College women's volleyball team won in
straight sets against Virginia State College to start off its 2008
season at the Kutztown Classic on Friday night.
Leading the way were Laura Noonan and Michelle Thornhill with seven
kills apiece. Thornhill also had seven digs for the Skyhawks.
Stonehill's Andrea Wirth contributed
with 16 assists and nine digs.
Katherine Masson and Laura Huselton
were solid along the net with three blocks each.
Jasmine Davis had
four kills and five blocks for Virginia State, and Reneisha Hill
recorded 13 digs.

continued its winning ways with a victory in three straight sets over
Virginia State University at the Kutztown Classic on Saturday.
The Golden Bears
(2-0) ran away with the first set 25-6, and won 25-13 and 25-18 to
close out the Trojans.
Cali
Snell (fr. York/York Suburban) led the offense with nine
kills and two blocks.
Katie Miller (jr. Elizabethtown/Elizabethtown) and
Lindsay Confer (so. Wingate/Bald Eagle Area) had six kills
each. Miller also had three blocks.
Jamie Celia (so. Douglassville/Daniel Boone) had 20 assists
and four service aces. Also adding to the offense with three service
aces were
Nora Alexander (so. Plymouth Meeting/Plymouth-Whitemarsh)
and
Lindsey Smith (fr. Hanover/Delone Catholic). Smith led KU
with eight digs.
Virginia State's
Brooke Wilson and Jade Austin led the offense, with two kills each.

Stonehill defeated Mercy 3-0 Saturday afternoon at the KU Classic.
Set scores were 25-14, 25-19 and 25-17.
Michelle Thornhill had nine kills and
eight digs for the Skyhawks (2-0). Andrea Wirth dished out 26
assists.
For Mercy (0-2), Ashley Zufelt had 11
kills, while Diana Bruzzone had 22 digs.

For the Vikings (0-3), Jasmine Davis
and Brooke Wilson had three kills apiece.

its first match of the 2008 season 3-1 to Stonehill College.
KU won
the first set 25-19, but dropped the final three 23-25,
20-25 and 15-25.

Jamie Celia (so. Douglasville/Daniel Boone) had 36 assists
and 17 digs.
Leading the
offense was

Snell (fr. York/York Suburban) with nine kills and two
blocks.
Also,
contributing offensively were
Lindsay Confer (Wingate/Bald Eagle Area) and
Katie Lutz (Greencastle/Greencastle Antrim) with eight kills
each. Lutz also had four blocks.

service aces and 15 digs for KU.
