The Golden Bears celebrated
Katie Miller (Elizabethtown/Elizabethtown) for Senior Day
prior to the match. Miller was also the cause of celebration
throughout the contest with her solid play.
Miller finished with nine kills
compared to only one error. And it was only fitting that the
game-clinching point came off a spike by Miller.
"The intensity level was definitely
raised with the pregame ceremony," said Miller. "I was a little more
nervous, but really wanted to win."
The Golden Bears (12-10, 5-9 PSAC)
bounced back from a gut wrenching 3-2 loss to Lock Haven the night
before.
"We were pumped up heading into the
today's match after what happened last night," said Miller. "We also
knew it would be a hard game, they beat us earlier in the season."
"I thought Katie
played well today and had some big kills for us at crucial points in
sets two and three that stopped ESU runs and allowed us to regain
control of the match," said coach John Gump. "She did a very
good job of executing our match plan on offense and also as a
blocker."
Junior
Lindsay Confer (Wingate/Bald Eagle Area) joined Miller to
not allow the Warriors the privilege of a season sweep.
Confer led KU with 15 kills, which
included six kills out of seven attempts in the first set.
Dana Wright (Warminster/Saint
Basil Academy) tallied 23 assists and six digs, while
Kimberlee Gomber (Washington/Washington) collected 13
assists and seven digs.
Jamie Celia (Douglassville/Daniel Boone)
recorded three service aces and a team-best 15 digs.
The Golden Bears were relentless at
the net, combining for six blocks, including two solo blocks for
Miller.
KU will take on Bowie State on
Monday October 26 at 6 p.m. before hosting Cheyney in a PSAC East
doubleheader on Friday October 30 starting at 6 p.m.
