Kutztown can't
keep win streak alive against Lock haven
KUTZTOWN, PA (October 23, 2009) –
The Kutztown women's volleyball team could not keep their three-game streak
alive, losing to Lock Haven in a 3-2 decision. In the five-game
battle, the Golden Bears won the first two games, 25-15 and 29-27,
but could not come up for one more win, losing the next three games
25-18, 25-22, 15-11.

Kutztown (11-10, 4-9) was
determined to let their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference
(PSAC) East rival Lock Haven, (24-6, 13-3) know this match would not
be a walk-in-the-park win. The Golden Bears dominated the court in
the first game, winning 25-15.
Game two proved most exciting for
fans. Starting the game by trailing four, the Golden Bears managed
to narrow the gap to a two point deficit. A block assist by
Katie Miller (Elizabethtown/Elizabethtown) and
Brianna Risch (Coatesville/Coatesville) gave Kutztown the
22-21 lead, followed by two errors for a one-point trail. Kutztown
managed to make-up for the errors, closing the point game to 24-all.
Two errors on Lock Haven gave Kutztown the 27-25 win.
The Golden Bears was led
offensively by
Kelsey Nester (Catasauqua/Catasauqua). Nester tallied 8
kills in four games. In game one, she dominated the court. She
earned two kills from six attacks, and continued her lucky streak
until a hand injury took her out early in game four. She did not
return for game five. Defensively, she came up with 11 digs.
Aiding Nester offensively was
Lindsay Confer (Wingate/Bald Eagle Area) who totaled seven
kills.
Dana Wright (Warminster/Saint Basil Academy) assisted 22
times, while Kimberlee
Gomber (Washington/Washington) added eight. In games one and
two, the Golden Bears tallied nine kills each. In game three, they
racked up 10 kills, but fell in game four and five, earning a
combined 14.
Defensively,
Jamie Celia (Douglassville/Daniel Boone) came up with 26
digs while Wright saved 14.
Cali
Snell (York/York Suburban) earned five blocked assists while
Lutz earned four and added an additional two block solos.
Kutztown returns to action, on Oct.
24, when they play against East Stroudsburg at 2 p.m. at Keystone
Arena. The team will travel to Bowie State for an Monday Oct. 26
game. The Golden Bears return home one last time, for a
double-header against Cheyney on Oct. 30 at 6 p.m
