KUTZTOWN, Pa. — Jessica Albanese gave Clarion
University a three-point lead with 14 seconds left and last-second
3-pointer by Kutztown University's Melissa McQuade (fr.
Pittsburgh/Shaler) fell short as the Golden Eagles defeated the
Golden Bears 66-63 Sunday at Keystone Hall.
McQuade led KU (6-7) with 14 points and eight
rebounds. Mercedes Van Wagner (sr. Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview
Regional) scored 12 points and had seven rebounds. Rachel
Wisemiller (so. Hazleton/Hazleton) came off the bench to post 11
points, as well as four assists, two blocks and a steal.
Albanese led the Golden
Eagles (9-3) with 16 points, while Katrina Greer had 15. Janelle
Zabresky posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
My’Kea Cohill had 11 points.
Both teams struggled in the
first half, making less than 35 percent of their shots. Clarion,
which shot 29 percent from the floor, started 0-for-9 and scored its
first basket with 15:14 left in the first half. KU, which shot 34.4
percent, didn’t take advantage of Clarion’s scoring drought, posting
just four points in the first five minutes.
The two teams went to
halftime tied at 24 and continued to exchange leads in the second
half until Clarion took the lead for good at 58-56 with 4:43 left.
KU will return home to play
Lincoln at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Keystone Hall.
