CALIFORNIA, Pa.
— Rachel Weidensaul (sr. Ashland/Cardinal Brennan) scored a
game-high 20 points as the Kutztown University women’s basketball
team fell 72-61 at California (Pa.) University at Hamer Hall Sunday.

The Golden
Bears (7-8), who trailed by as many as 12 in the first half, cut
the Vulcans’ lead to three midway in the second half of the
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover, but California
(13-2) used a 14-4 run to pull away for good.
Weidensaul, who
shot 6-for-13 from the field, hit three of the Golden Bears’ six
3-pointers.
Melissa McQuade
(fr. Pittsburgh/Shaler) scored 11 points and pulled down nine
rebounds for KU, which went on a 10-4 run midway through the second
half to cut the Vulcans’ lead to 53-50.
California had
three players finish in double digits, with Kayla Smith scoring a
team-high 19 points and 10 rebounds. Brooque Williams had 18 points
and Crystal Andrews posted 16.
The Golden Bears
will return home to host Mansfield in the first PSAC East contest of
the season. The game is slated for 6 p.m. tipoff at Keystone Hall.
