McQuade tied
her career-high in points with 19 and had 13 rebounds in the
non-conference win. Teammate Mercedes Van Wagner (sr. Mullica
Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) just missed a double-double
of her own, scoring 10 points and recording nine rebounds. Her
nine boards, however, moved her into fourth on KU’s all-time
rebound list with 727, passing Becky Savage (1999-2003), who had
725.
Van Wagner also had
a block in the game, moving her to within one of tying the all-time
school record.
Meredith Starr (fr.
Richmond, Va./Monacan) also finished in double digits with 12
points, including two of KU’s six 3-pointers in the game. She also
had six assists.
KU (7-7) went into
halftime leading 43-33, but wasn’t able to pull away from Lincoln
(3-9) until the latter part of the first half. The Lions’ DeJuanna
Mosley kept the game close scoring 13 points in the first half, but
KU’s defense shut her down in the second, holding her to just one
point as the Golden Bears padded their lead to 20 points with 5:21
left.
The Golden Bears
shot 50 percent from the field in the game with nine players scoring
at least two baskets. KU held Lincoln to 31.1 percent shooting in
the game, and 22.2 percent in the second half.
Rachel
Weidensaul (sr. Ashland/Cardinal Brennan) came off the bench to
dish out a team-high seven assists, and Katie Dovey (so. Willow
Hill/Fannett-Metal) made her presence known on the free-throw
line, making 7-of-10.
KU will return to
the court on Sunday when the Golden Bears travel to California (Pa.)
for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover. Tip-off is
slated for 1 p.m.
