BOX SCORE
CHEYNEY, Pa. -
Kutztown fell to Cheyney, 72-59, in Pennsylvania State Athletic
Conference Eastern Division action Saturday afternoon at Cope Hall.
Kutztown was led by
Rachel Wisemiller, who scored a career-high 21 points.
Mercedes Van Wagner added 19 points and 12 rebounds.
She has 828 career rebounds, three away from the KU career record of
831 by Missy Boettger (1987-91). Melissa McQuade netted
nine points and eight rebounds.
Danielle Jones led
the Lady Wolves with 28 points, Angel Stephens notched 10
rebounds.
Kutztown trailed
for most of the game, falling behind by double digits less than
eight minutes into the first half. KU climbed back to within
32-28 at halftime, and took a 38-37 lead at the 14:31 mark of the
second half on a layup by Van Wagner.
KU's lead was short
lived, as Stephanie Orji hit two free throws 15 seconds later, and
KU never regained the lead. Cheyney later went on a 12-3 run
to break it open
The loss dropped
Kutztown's record to 11-15 overall, 4-7 in the PSAC East. KU
remains a half-game behind East Stroudsburg for fourth place and the
final playoff berth for the PSAC East. For KU to remain alive
for the post-season berth, ESU must lose to Mansfield on Wednesday.
KU does not play on Wednesday.
An ESU loss to
Mansfield would set up a showdown between the Warriors and Golden
Bears next Saturday, March 1, with the winner clinching the final
playoff berth. An ESU win vs. Mansfield would eliminate KU
from any post-season consideration.
