KUTZTOWN, Pa.
— The
Kutztown University women’s basketball team lost to Pennsylvania
State Athletic Conference East foe Millersville University 65-40 at
Keystone Hall Wednesday night.
Millersville (13-4,
3-0 PSAC East) was led by Jenna Craig, who had 14 points and 11
boards, and Gladine St. Juliene with 14 points and eight rebounds.
The Golden Bears
(8-10, 1-2 PSAC East) did not have a player score in double-digits,
but were led by Rachel Weidensaul (Ashland/Cardinal Brennan),
who had eight points, and by Claire Sitarz
(Southampton/Archbishop Wood) who also had eight points off the
bench.
It was a defensive
battle in the first half, as each squad struggled from the field.
Millersville (13-4, 3-0 PSAC East) shot 22 percent from the field
while Kutztown (8-10, 1-2 PSAC East) shot only 33.3 percent.
Weidensaul shot well early on, as she scored almost half (8) of
KU’s 19 points in the first 20 minutes.
KU trailed by
a significant margin the majority of the first half, but was able to
go on a 5-0 run right before half time to trim Millersville’s lead to a five-point lead
at 24-19.
In the second half,
Millersville outscored the Golden Bears 41-21 and shot 15-of-34
(44.1 percent) in the half. Millersville turned a 30-26 lead with 15:22 left into a
45-31 edge with 7:37 to play.
KU didn’t
help its cause, committing 25 turnovers that
the Marauders turned into 26 points.
The loss is the
Golden Bears 14th in a row to the Millersville, as they
haven’t defeated the Marauders since the 2002 season.
The Golden Bears
will next be in action on Saturday as they travel to Bloomsburg
University for a 1 p.m. tipoff.
