McQUADE, SCHROEDER NOTCH CAREER HIGHS IN 86-72 WIN
KUTZTOWN, Pa. —
Melissa McQuade (so. Pittsburgh/Shaler)
headlined a day filled with career highs as the Kutztown University
women’s basketball team rallied in the second half to defeat the
University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown 86-72 Sunday in the final game of
the Golden Bear Classic at Keystone Hall.

McQuade scored a career-high 30 points and had another personal-best
going 10-for-10 from the free-throw line, helping KU overcome a
31-24 halftime deficit. The All-Classic MVP also had four 3-pointers
and 14 rebounds to earn her second double-double in as many games.
KU
(2-0) rebounded in the second half, shooting 67.7 percent from the
field, while stringing together a 34-14 run to take a 60-50 lead
with 8:42 left to play. Pitt-Johnstown (0-2) never regained the
lead.
Rachel Wisemiller (jr.
Hazleton/Hazleton)
and
Chauntelle Schroeder (jr. Toronto,
Ont./Mother Theresa),
who had a combined seven points in the first half, finished with 21
and 19, respectively.
Schroeder also had 10 rebounds for her first double-double of her
career. Both her points and rebounds were a career high.
Wisemiller, who hit four 3-pointers en route to tying her
career-high in points, recorded personal-best marks in rebounds with
eight and steals with four. She was named to the All-Classic team.
Lara Dellegrotti (sr. Berwick/Berwick)
finished with nine points and five assists.
Meredith Starr (so. Richmond,
Va./Monacan)
had
five points and six assists.
Pitt-Johnstown had four players finish in double digits, with Taylor
Griffith’s 17 points leading the way. Lindsay Cale, who also was
named to the All-Classic team, had 16 points. Sheena Aden had 12
points and Kristin Irwin had 10.
KU
will open up a four-game road trip with a non-conference matchup at
the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The trip also includes games at Lincoln, Columbia Union and Penn
State-Berks before the Golden Bears return home on Dec. 17 for a
game against Columbia Union.
Game 3
LE MOYNE WINS SHOOTOUT WITH SLIPPERY ROCK
KUTZTOWN, Pa. —
The second day of the Golden Bear Classic began with a shootout in
which Le Moyne topped Slippery Rock 85-73.
The Le Moyne (2-0) offense was sparked
by Courtney Coryea, who had 19 points, three steals and two
blocks. Kathleen Gladstone chipped in with 15 points and five
assists, while Vanessa Holden had 10 points with seven
rebounds. Guard Katie Dunn had 13 points and five assists for
the Dolphins.
The Dolphin defense forced 23
turnovers and held the advantage in rebounds 32-16.
Slippery Rock (0-2) was led
offensively by Julie Molloy with 17 points and five assists.
Amanda Nero and Sasha Sales each scored 12 points for
the Rock. Forward Jess Schake contributed with 11 points and
three rebounds.
The Dolphins were 50.8 percent
shooting from the field and 42.9 percent from 3-point range. The
Rock shot 55.6 percent.
Holden and Coryea were named to the
All-Classic team, along with Slippery Rock’s Molloy.

DELLEGROTTI'S CAREER-HIGH 21 POINTS LEADS KU PAST SLIPPERY ROCK
KUTZTOWN, Pa.

kicked off the 2008-09 season with a double-double as the Kutztown
University women’s basketball team defeated Slippery Rock 66-51 Saturday in the Golden
Bear Classic at Keystone Hall.

Dellegrotti
posted a career-best 21 points, including nine points during an 11-5
run that put KU ahead 48-34 with 12:35 remaining. She earned two
consecutive trips to the line and made all six free throws after
being fouled from beyond the arc. She capped the run with a
3-pointer — one of her three in the game.
McQuade finished
with 16 points and 10 rebounds, to go with her five assists and five
steals.
KU (1-0) and
Slippery Rock (0-1) were tied at 16-16 with 4:27 left in the first
half, but Dellegrotti fueled another rally, scoring eight in a 14-5
run that gave the Golden Bears a 30-21 halftime lead.
Julie Molloy led The Rock with 10 points
and nine rebounds, and Nikki Presto had nine points and 10 rebounds.
Sasha Sales also had 10 rebounds.

KU will return
to the court at 3 p.m. Sunday to face the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown,
which fell 70-52 to Le Moyne College in the opening game of the
Golden Bear Classic.

LE MOYNE COLLEGE TOPS PITT-JOHNSTOWN
KUTZTOWN, Pa.

The Le Moyne Dolphins women’s basketball team started off the
2008-09 season with a 70-52 win over Pitt-Johnstown Saturday
afternoon in the Golden Bear Classic at Keystone Hall.
Le Moyne (1-0) led 37-32 at
halftime and pulled away from Pitt-Johnstown (0-1) with a 33-20 second
half.
Leading the Dolphins was
forward Vanessa Holden with 16 points, six rebounds and two
blocks. Holden was 6-of-8 from the foul line. Brittany Davis
chipped in with 13 points, two blocks and two steals. Katie Dunn
and Courtney Coryea each had 10 points for Le Moyne, which
shot 40.7 percent from the field.
Pitt-Johnstown was
led by guard Sheena Aden, who had 14 points and six rebounds.
Lindsay Cale had 10 points, two blocks and four rebounds. The
Mountains Cats were held to 27.9 percent from the field.
Le Moyne will take
on Slippery Rock at 1 p.m. in the second day of the Golden Bear
Classic. Pitt-Johnstown will tip off at 3 p.m. against host Kutztown
at Keystone Hall.
