LEWISBURG, Pa.
— The
Kutztown University women’s golf team
opened the season shooting a 683 to finish seventh out of 12 teams at the Bucknell
Invitational Sunday.
The
Golden Bears,
who golfed 36 holes Sunday after the first round was postponed due
to the remnants of
tropical storm Hanna soaking the
Northeast
on Saturday, were one of two
Division II schools
among nine Division
I programs.
Penn State finished first
with 610 and Youngstown State followed with 619. Rutgers had a 643
and Lehigh was four behind at 647. Bucknell, which had two squads
competing, had its “Orange” team finish fifth with 659. Catawba, the
only other
Division II school at the invite, was
sixth (678).
Kelli Pry
(so. Coatesville/Coatesville)
led KU with a two-round total of 164, including a second-round score
of 79.
Chelsea Corbo (fr.
Harrisburg/Central Dauphin East)
had a second-round
score of 83, leading her to finish second on the team with a 170.
Samatha Rumbley (so. Bel Air, Md./C.
Milton Wright)
posted a 174 and
Lauren
Foulke (sr. Brockway/Brockway)
and
Krista Tressler (sr. Fayetteville/Heritage Academy)
each carded a 176.
“It was a really good
tournament,” KU coach
Robert Fisher said.
“We’re really excited to start the season like this.”
The Golden Bears’ fall season will continue
when they host the KU Invitational at Berkleigh
Golf Club
at noon Friday.
