Women's Golf
History
Women’s Golf at Kutztown
Women’s golf continues to grow on the collegiate level. During the
2008-09 school year, 134 schools sponsored the sport at the NCAA
Division II level.
In 2000, the NCAA sponsored a separate Division
II and III women’s golf championship for the first time.
Kutztown was the first school in the Pennsylvania
State Athletic Conference (PSAC) to add women’s golf as a varsity
sport. Each
season, the team competes in the Pennsylvania State Athletic
Conference Championship.
In
2003, West Chester became the second women's team in the PSAC, and
in 2005, the league exanded to eight teams, including three women's
teams with the addition of California (Pa.).
In 2008-09, Clarion and East Stroudsburg added the sport, and Mercyhurst and Gannon joined the PSAC in all sports, including
women’s golf. The additions provided enough teams in the PSAC to
field a separate championship for women’s golf, which will be
contested for the first time in fall 2008.
