The
streak is tied for second longest in KU history, matching the 2004
Golden Bears. The school record is 12 straight, set in 2003.
At the 32:25 mark of the game,
Chelsea Bressler (fr. Cleona/Annville-Cleona) was taken down
inside the box while on a breakaway, which forced a penalty kick.
Carolynne Kahl (so. Bethel/Tulpehocken) took the penalty
kick and scored what proved to be the winning margin.
Steph Addleman (fr. Chambersburg/Chambersburg)
made four saves to hold the Golden Eagles (5-8) scoreless. It was her
fifth shutout as a freshman.
KU outshot Charleston by a 10-4 margin
and held the advantage in corner kicks 4-1.
"This was a nice result for us on the
road. We managed to keep possession of the ball and we had
Charleston chasing in the first half," KU head coach Erik Burstein
said "The second half we did not see as much of the ball as I would
have liked, but we defended very well, especially in the midfield,
and stayed organized for the entire 90 minutes. Just a good solid
overall performance."
The Golden Bears will host Shepherd
University at Keystone Field at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
