The Golden Bears (10-3-2) also moved into second all-time in KU
history by remaining unbeaten in their last 11 games. The streak is
one game off the record set in 2003, when KU was unbeaten in 12
consecutive games. KU was 10-0-2 during that streak in 2003, whereas
the 2008 Golden Bears are 10-0-1 throughout their last 11 games.
A late first-half goal helped KU keep the streak alive, as
Carolynne Kahl (so. Bethel/Tulpehocken)
fired in a pass from
Chelsea Bressler (fr. Cleona/Annville-Cleona)
over the keeper with 1 second
left on the clock.
Trystin Figel (so. Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex),
who had good touches with her head and feet all throughout the game,
cashed in with 10:04 left to score her first goal of the season. A
rebound off a defender's head on a corner kick went right to Figel,
who one-touched it over the keeper and just under the crossbar for
the 2-0 lead.
Steph Addleman (fr. Chambersburg/Chambersburg)
did not have to make a save to collect her sixth shutout as a Golden
Bear. It was her
third straight shutout and KU has not allowed a goal in the last
330:29 of play.
Lauren Brown (fr. Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney)
and
Chelsea Deeter (so. Langhorne/Neshaminy)
anchored the Golden Bears
defense which held Shepherd without a shot.
"I was pleased with
the way we played,” KU head coach Erik Burstein said. "Our team
defending was very solid and the play of Trystin Figel was
fantastic. This was a great team effort. We gave some players an
opportunity to get after it and they did not disappoint. We are on
the right track at the moment, but we need to continue to stay
focused and keep working hard toward better things."
The Golden Bears, who are now ranked second in the region by the
NCAA, will
travel to East Stroudsburg for a 7 p.m. contest Friday. KU holds a
four-point lead on the Warriors in the Pennsylvania State Athletic
Conference Eastern Division standings.
