KUTZTOWN, PA. (November 12, 2009)
– Three members of the Kutztown University women’s soccer team were
named to the all-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)
Eastern Division first team.
Sophomores
Chelsea Bressler (Annville/ Annville-Cleona) and
Shannon Pennock (Mansfield, NJ/North Burlington) along with
junior
Chelsea Deeter (Langhorne/Neshaminy) were named to the first
team while freshman
Kelly Rozembersky (Roxbury, NJ/Roxbury) was named to the
second team. All four players have helped Kutztown enjoy its finest
season in school history. The Golden Bears have set a school record
for wins with 15.
Bressler, who was named the PSAC East Freshman of the Year last
season, leads Kutztown in goals (10), points (24) and game-winning
goals (five). Bressler has scored 20 goals during her two-year
career. This is the second consecutive year Bressler was named to
the PSAC East first team. Bressler scored the only goal during
Kutztown’s 1-0 victory over California (Pa.) in the PSAC
quarterfinals.
Pennock has scored six goals, which
is third on the team. She started the season with a bang by scoring
the game-winning goal in overtime to help Kutztown defeat then
eighth-ranked Mercyhurst, 2-1. Pennock scored two goals each against
Mansfield and Charleston.
Meanwhile, Deeter and Rozembersky have anchored a dominant defensive
effort for Kutztown. They have helped the Golden Bears set a school
record for shutouts in a season with 13. Deeter was an all-PSAC East
first team selection last year. Deeter also recorded two assists in
the Golden Bears’ 4-1 victory over East Stroudsburg in the PSAC
quarterfinals. Rozembersky is one of 14 Kutztown players with at
least one goal this season. She also has two assists.
Kutztown (15-5-2 overall) will host an NCAA Division II Atlantic
Regional. The Golden Bears will play their first home NCAA
tournament contest in school history on Sunday, November 15 at 1
p.m. against the winner of the West Virginia Wesleyan-California
(Pa.) contest at Keystone Field. West Virginia Wesleyan and
California (Pa.) play at Keystone Field on Friday, November 13.
