KUTZTOWN,
PA. (October 3, 2009) –
The Kutztown University
women’s soccer team scored two goals late in the second half for a
2-0 victory over Davis & Elkins Saturday afternoon.
This was the Golden Bears' fourth consecutive triumph. Kutztown also
ran its shutout
streak to three matches.

Entering the match,
the Golden Bears were ranked third in the Atlantic Region by
the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) while Davis
& Elkins
was ranked fifth. The Golden Bears are ranked 24th
in the NSCAA Top 25.
Keeping the family-day crowd on the edge of
their seats, the Golden Bears, (8-2-1 overall, 6-1-1 in PSAC)
managed to take 14 shots on goal before
Jen Pyne
(Wall, N.J./Wall) was finally able to dribble free, and set
up
Chelsea Bressler (Cleona/Annville-Cleona)
for a goal with 14 minutes 38 seconds left in the
second half. Four minutes later,
Molly
Cooper (Palmyra/Palmyra) delivered the second goal for
the Golden Bears, which was assisted by Bressler.
“We were working harder the second half,
listening to our coach more,” Bressler said after the game,
“We were just grinding it out.”
The Golden Bears
dominated the field offensively and defensively, turning up the
pressure in the second half, taking 10 shots on goal.
"All the credit must be given to the girls on
the team for their second half performance,' coach Erik Burstein
said. "We had some great
individual efforts, we won most of our individual battles and we
scored two absolutely fantastic goals."
The Golden Bears defense, led by junior
Chelsea Deeter (Langhorne/Neshaminy), was strong.
"Deeter did a great job providing leadership
and direction on the field and the overall performance in the second
half was substantially better,” said Burstein.
The Senators took three shots on KU
goalkeeper
Alyssa Hackelberg (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) in the second
half. Hackelberg had six saves for the day, recording her
third consecutive shutout. She has six shutouts this season and a
total of 47 saves.
Bressler had five shots on goal. Pyne and
Cooper had three shots on goal.
Shannon Pennock (Mansfield, N.J./Northern Burlington),
Julia DiFerdinando (Chadds Ford/Garnet Valley),
Sarah
Black (Hershey/Lower Dauphin),
Rhea
Weaver (Hummelstown/Lower Dauphin), and
Kelly Rozembersky (Roxbury/Roxbury) also had shots.
The Golden Bears outshot the Senators 19-8.
Senator goalkeeper Jackie Krum had 14 saves. Leading the offensive
for the senators, Megan Beal and Kim Brown each had three shots on
goal.
"This was an important win and I am very proud
of this team for grinding out a solid victory," said Burstein.
The Golden Bears will hit the road for their
next five-straight games beginning with a match Tuesday at
Philadelphia University (4 p.m.). Kutztown has two remaining home contests,
returning home Oct. 24 to face East Stroudsburg and Bloomsburg on
Oct. 31.
