The NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Committee has
released its fifth poll and Kutztown University has
finished its regular season ranked third in the
Atlantic Region and 24th nationally
according to the
National Soccer Coaches’ Association
of America (NSCAA).

The top teams in each region, with records through
November 3 are listed. Championship selections will
be announced at 7 p.m. Eastern Time on Monday, Nov.
9 via a webcast selection show on NCAA.com.
In the Atlantic Region, Kutztown is ranked behind
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)
schools West Chester and California. Kutztown is
ranked ahead of Indiana (Pa.), Mercyhurst, Gannon,
Slippery Rock, Davis & Elkins, East Stroudsburg and
Alderson-Broaddus.
Nationally, Kutztown is eight spots behind
California (PA). Previously, California was ranked
25th and Kutztown was ranked 14th. West Chester
maintained fifth place in the nation.
The Golden Bears again had a 1-1 week. They started
off the week with a 1-2 double overtime loss
to Millersville. The Golden Bears came back to
finish their regular season, posting a 1-0 thriller
over Bloomsburg on Halloween. The Golden Bears ended
their regular season with 13-4-2 record, and
advanced to the PSAC playoffs.
Freshman keeper
Alyssa Hackelberg (Randolph,
NJ/Randolph) added to her school record for
shutouts in a single season with 12 in the
Bloomsburg victory.
Emily Froehlich (Perkasie/Pennridge)
scored the game winning goal off a pass from the
baseline by
Chelsea Bressler (Cleona/Annville-Cleona)
in
the Bloomsburg game.
In the Millersville loss,
Stephanie Barnett (Blandon/Fleetwood)
scored
the sole goal for Kutztown, off a pass from
Julia DiFerdinando (Chadds Ford/Garnet Valley).
The women began their postseason on Tuesday, Nov.
4, posting a 4-1 win over East Stroudsburg, and
tying the school record for most wins in a season
(14-4-2).
Bressler
and senior forward
Raven Chiara (Jamesburg, N.J./Monroe Twp.)
scored in the first three minutes of the game.
Junior midfielder
Jen Tice (Barnegat, N.J./Sourthern Regional)
and junior defender
Kelly Bushe (Neptune City, N.J./Neptune)
knocked in the final two goals for the Golden Bears.
The quarterfinal playoff win advanced the Golden
Bears to the PSAC semifinals, which will be held at
West Chester, on Friday, Nov. 6, at 1:30 p.m. The
Golden Bears will kick off against California (PA),
who post a 15-4-1 record.
Kutztown is 8-3-2 all-time against California (PA).
The Golden Bears have won four straight over the
Vulcans, including the last three by shutout. This
will be the first meeting between the two schools
since a 3-0 KU victory during the 2007 season. If
Kutztown wins, it will advance to its third PSAC
title game in program history and its first since
2005.
