KUTZTOWN, PA. (October 14,
2009) -- The NCAA
Division II Women's Soccer Committee has released its second poll and Kutztown University is ranked second in the
Atlantic Region.
The top teams in each region,
with records through October 12 are listed. The final regular-season poll
will be published November 4 and championship selections will take place
Nov. 9. Selections will be announced at 7 p.m. Eastern time, Monday, Nov. 9
via a webcast selection show on NCAA.com.
These are the rankings the
women’s soccer committee will use to determine its selections for the 2009
NCAA Women’s Division II Soccer Championships.
Kutztown (10-2-2 overall) was
ranked third last week. KU stretched its unbeaten streak to seven matches
and shutout string to six by defeating Shepherd, 3-0, Wednesday afternoon.
The Golden Bears are ranked 16th nationally by the National Soccer Coaches
Association of America (NSCAA). Kutztown is ranked in the Atlantic Region
behind Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) rival West Chester. The
Golden Bears are currently in the midst of a five-game road trip. They
travel to Shippensburg Saturday night for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
The Golden Bears are
currently in second place in the PSAC East with 16 points behind West
Chester, who has 24 points. Kutztown ends its five-match road trip at West
Chester on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. showdown. West Chester defeated Kutztown,
2-1, at Keystone Field on Wednesday Sept. 16. Kutztown’s final five regular
season matches are all against PSAC East Division opponents.
Sophomore Chelsea Bressler
(Cleona/Annville-Cleona) leads the Golden Bears in scoring with seven
goals and 16 points. Sophomore Shannon Pennock (Mansfield, NJ/North
Burlington) and freshman Molly Cooper (Palmyra/Palmyra) are
second on the team with six goals each. In outscoring its opponents, 35-7,
Kutztown has received at least one goal from 13 different players. Freshman
keeper Alyssa Hackelberg (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) has nine shutouts,
establishing a program record for most in a season.
During the season, Kutztown
has defeated four teams who are currently regionally ranked in the latest
NCAA Division II soccer poll.
