KUTZTOWN, PA. (September 16, 2009) –
The Kutztown University women’s soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision
to visiting West Chester in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference
(PSAC) Eastern Division match Wednesday afternoon at Keystone Field.

The Golden Bears
(4-2-1 overall, 2-1-1 PSAC East) entered the game ranked ninth in
the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America Top 25
poll and ranked first in the Atlantic Region. Kutztown held a 1-0
halftime advantage thanks to Chelsea Bressler’s goal in the 36th
minute. The scoring play began when Sarah Black fired a shot that
clanked off the top of the crossbar and onto Bressler’s foot.
Kutztown freshman keeper Alyssa Hackelberg made two
saves. In addition to Bressler’s two shots, Jen Tice and Sarah Black
also fired the same amount of shots during the game. Kutztown
controlled the first half, holding a 9-3 edge in shots.
Unfortunately for the Golden Bears, West Chester turned the tables
after intermission, outshooting KU, 5-2.
West Chester took the lead with a pair of goals
during a two-minute stretch of the second half. Melissa McKeary tied
the game, 1-1, in the 66th minute. Sarah Oswald scored
the decisive tally off of an assist from Sam Paolino in the 68th
minute.
West Chester improved its record to 5-1 overall and
4-1 in the PSAC East. Kutztown will be back in action Saturday
afternoon when it travels to Bloomsburg University for a 2:00 p.m.
start. West Chester and Kutztown will meet again on Tuesday October
20 at West Chester.
