WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I CONTACT THE OMBUDSPERSON?A meeting with the Ombudsperson provides a safe environment for you to address your concerns. He/she will respect your privacy and maintain strict confidentiality. The Ombudsperson will not discuss or take action on your issue without your permission. When you visit with the Ombudsperson, he/she will listen carefully and ask questions to help understand your concerns. Supporting documents such as letters, e-mails or other relevant information can be shared with the Ombudsperson to help assess your situation. All related information will be kept in a confidential file. Prior to your first meeting with the Ombudsperson, please complete the form: Student Request for Assistance and bring it with you on the day of your meeting. Before the Ombudsperson becomes involved in your situation, he/she may find it necessary to consult with other individuals in the University. He/she will ask for your consent in advance before taking any action. Sometimes an anonymous inquiry might be all that is needed. The length of time it takes to resolve a complaint will vary depending on its complexity. With an understanding of general university policies and procedures, the Ombudsperson will suggest a reasonable resolution based on the information presented to him/her. If all parties do not agree with the recommendation, the Ombudsperson may be able to identify other options for resolution. The Ombudsperson will update you periodically on the progress of your situation. Regardless of the situation, the Ombudsperson does not make a binding decision.
