Kutztown University collaborates with the Council on Chemical Abuse
to implement grant!
The President’s Roundtable is a campus and community coalition
established in 1998. It is committed to fostering social and
environmental change through campus-community partnerships that will
result in healthy and responsible decision-making regarding the legal
use of alcohol and other drugs. In collaboration with the Council on
Chemical Abuse, Kutztown University received the Pennsylvania Strategic
Prevention Framework State Incentive Grant. The goals of the grant
are: to reduce the onset and prevent the progression of substance
abuse, including underage drinking; to reduce the problems associated
with substance abuse; and to build and enhance infrastructure at the
state and local levels. Three priorities for grant funding are: 1) To
prevent (reduce) the early initiation and regular use of alcohol in
middle and high schools; 2) to prevent (reduce) drinking and driving
among persons ages 16 through 21; and 3) to reduce the illegal use and
misuse of alcohol among persons ages 18 through 21. The focus of the
work is toward enhancing evidence-based programs such as Brief Alcohol Screening &
Intervention of College Students (BASICS), campus AUDIT screenings to
identify "at-risk" students, and the AlcoholEdu web-based
educational program. A PASSHE AOD grant (2009-2010)provided
funding for a social norms marketing campaign based upon CORE surveys, established a
standardized BASICS Program for first year resident students, and
implemented system-wide strategies for creating systemic change.
