Police Officers

The University Police Department employs 16 full-time, commissioned Police Officers to provide Police protection to the entire University 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. All police officers have completed basic police training and are commissioned police officers in the State of Pennsylvania. They are granted powers of arrest through the Governor of the Commonwealth. Field personnel are trained in advanced techniques including Crime Prevention, First Aid, Criminal Investigation, and Fire Fighting. The Department of Public Safety and Police Services is the primary agency for dealing with criminal incidents. The Department maintains an excellent rapport with federal, state, and county police agencies. Investigations are co-conducted through the process of sharing intelligence information that has proven to be an effective avenue to carry out the functions of a police department. Every month the Department files a statistical crime report with the Pennsylvania State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The University Police Department employs police officers whose function is to provide crime prevention services to students, staff and faculty. These officers have advanced training in this area and provide a wide range of educational programs, including rape prevention and awareness, drug and alcohol awareness, personal safety, theft awareness, and related issues. The crime prevention unit also offers a self defense course for women titled Rape Aggression Defense or R.A.D. Crime prevention officers are also available to provide programs that meet the special educational needs of campus groups and organizations.
