FAQ's
How can I listen to KUR?
The station's frequency is 88.3 FM, with a simulcast on 1670 AM. These
signals can only be heard on-campus. In
addition, our audio is simulcast on and off-campus on Service Electric Cable
Television Channel 24, or on Hometown Utilicom Cable Channel 28 during select
times of the day. Our stream is available anywhere in the world
on our homepage, and now you can listen to KUR on your I-Phone
by downloading the "Radiolicious" app and searching for
"Kutztown" or on ANY phone by simply dialing (610)-465-7860.
Toll charges may apply based on your phone plan. Otherwise, it
is totally free for you to enjoy.
How far does KUR's signal reach?
KUR's operation falls into FCC part-15 regulations, allowing us to
broadcast unlicensed, as long as our power does not exceed the miniscule levels
allowed of unlicensed stations and we don't interfere with any other stations.
KUR's AM signal quality must also quickly drop off beyond campus borders, as
dictated by the FCC. The FM signal cannot leave campus borders.
Because our FM signal is 100 percent legal and part-15 certified, it is
extremely weak and can only be heard in one or two spots on campus. We compensate by broadcasting on 1670 AM
for the parts of campus that can't hear our FM. As a "free-radiate AM station,"
we are allowed slightly higher power within campus boundaries on AM. The antenna
is a Radio
Systems approved and installed antenna.
If ever you suspect interference to a licensed radio
facility, please contact KUR immediately at (610)-683-4059 and
ask for the manager. KUR will look to rectify the situation
quickly.
As for people in town and beyond who want to hear us, we can be found at
select times of the day on
Service Electric Cable TV Channel 24, Hometown Utilicom Cable TV Channel 28, or
on the web, and now on your I-Phones or regular phones (see above).
Can I join the radio station?
As long as you're a KU student, faculty, or staff, absolutely.
Just send an e-mail to
kur@kutztown.edu expressing your interest, and we'll get back to you with
information. If you don't hear back within a few days, that is unusual as
we're quick to respond. Your message may have been spammed. Stop down to 188 or
190 of the McFarland Student Union Building or call (610)-683-4059.
Can I have my own show?
Before having your own show, you must first join the radio station and
become an active member. This means helping out with live events and helping at
the station, as well. You must also complete training for on-air work and be
approved by the station manager and the program director.
Can KU broadcast live from my campus/community organization's event?
KUR is NO LONGER doing mobile-DJ events, meaning we will only broadcast live
from your event. We can no longer freelance "DJ" your event like
a club DJ. If those are the services you need, we suggest
contracting an outside DJ. But we are happy to help out wherever we can with our services and
remote broadcast many on
campus events for the University. Believe it or not, we get
booked up very quickly, especially during a time when there are
a lot of events going on. If you would like to book us for a
remote, contact the station at
kur@kutztown.edu, or, if you don't hear back via e-mail, you
may have been spammed. Come on down to 188 or 190 of the
McFarland Student Union Building or call (610)-683-4059.
What kind of programming is featured on the radio station?
During the day, KUR plays a pleasant blend of both old and new jazz. During the
evenings, student, faculty, and University specialty shows are featured, including everything from rock
to rap to blues to reggae to foreign music to talk programming and everything in between.
What is the radio station phone number?
The radio station's main office number is as follows:
On-campus: 3-4059
Off-Campus: (610)-683-4059
Also visit the contact page for office numbers and staff contact information.
