The Annual Fund: Phonathon - Jobs!

Positions Available

The Phonathon offers two types of positions. You may apply to be a phonathon caller and previous callers may apply to be a student supervisor. Both positions are critical in assisting us to achieve our goal. The majority of applicants receive a caller position, while more experienced callers may apply to be a supervisor. Each semester, a limited number of highly motivated and enthusiastic supervisors are needed. The phonathon offers competitive pay and many opportunities for raises and bonuses. The job descriptions for both are listed below.

Student Caller

Phonathon Callers play an integral role in connecting alumni with KU. Their call may be the only opportunity the alumni office gets to touch base with an alum throughout the year. The main responsibility of this position is to update alumni addresses and employment information, discuss the alum's college time at KU, update alumni on campus changes, and finally ask them for a monetary gift to the Annual Fund. This position requires extensive training and all callers are taught the basics of fundraising and how to convey a positive message to alumni. The Phonathon seeks diligent, punctual, enthusiastic, motivated and fun students. Callers are expected to work two nights a week and two Sunday nights a month and will periodically be evaluated by the student supervisor and phonathon coordinator. Starting pay is $6.00 an hour.

Student Supervisor

The student supervisor has a number of responsibilities. First, assisting in the nightly set up of the phonathon. This may include sorting pledge sheets, assigning seats, and choosing games to play. Second, motivating, praising and correcting callers while they are making calls. A supervisor should be comfortable offering suggestions on calling techniques to peers and giving suggestions of how to improve one's effectiveness. Third, serving as a liaison between the phonathon coordinator and the callers. Fourth, assisting with the planning of training and social events. The Phonathon is looking for highly motivated, personable, responsible, organized and fun experienced callers to become supervisors.
