Auction Items The items below are just a few of
the items included in the silent auction at the President's Ball.
“THE ELUSIVE SEA COW” This beautiful bovine was designed and
painted (and signed) by Abigail J. Krantz, KU ’05, as Kutztown
University’s entry in CowParade Harrisburg, 2004. CowParade
began in Chicago in 1999 and has since appeared in 19 cities on
four continents for the benefit of non-profit organizations.
“The Elusive Sea Cow” was selected as one of 12 cows from the
Harrisburg Parade to be released in miniature. Value $1,500.
TAHITIAN
BLACK PEARL AND DIAMOND PENDANT An exotic 8.5mm
black Tahitian pearl is set between two asymmetrical diamond
“stick” pendants with total weight of .33 carats. Set in 18k
white gold and suspended from a 17” fine cable link chain, this
stunning pendant is offered through the generosity of
Dunkelberger’s Fine Jewelry & Gifts, Kutztown. You are bidding
on an item worth $1,195.
WOODEN AIRPLANE PROPELLER Manufactured in
1943 by Sensenich Brothers of Lititz, PA, this propeller was
used on a Culver PQ8A. Its brass plates are inscribed: “National
Capital Model Air Show, Major Hartford P. Jenks, in
Appreciation.” This handsome piece was donated by
Dr. Carole
Wells and has a value of $500.
“SUMMER
MEADOW” HANDMADE QUILT
Included in the “Top 100 Judges Select” group at the 2004 Kutztown
German Festival, this queen-size quilt was designed by
Cheryl Brenner, a fabric artist from Lancaster County. The
design was part of a series created by Cheryl for Bride’s
Magazine. You are bidding on an item worth $1,500.
ORIGINAL
SCULPTURE, “DESERT PRINCESS” This original
terra cotta sculpture of a pre-colonial, Native American
princess of the southwest is donated by the artist, Ms. Marie B.
Hartman, KU class of ‘43. Accented with copper, bronze and
turquoise glaze, this regal bust personifies the strength and
dignity of the original inhabitants of our great country. You
are bidding on an item worth $1,000.
"YORK CITY – EMBLEM OF STRENGTH” This limited edition print is signed and donated by the artist, Tom F. Hermansader. This 30 x 24-inch piece is a bold, patriotic rendering of the Twin Towers harbor-scape and the strength of New York City after 9-11. Value $250.
"THE HISTORIC PLEASANTVILLE BRIDGE” Donated by the artist, Tom Davis, this is a handsome depiction of the oldest standing covered bridge in Berks County. The Pleasantville Covered Bridge crosses the Manatawny Creek in the Historic District of Oley Township. Value $135.
ORIGINAL PAINTING, "ONTELAUNEE FARM” A layering technique of complex color gives a rich depth and quiet drama to this inviting landscape by Kurt Moyer ’99. Offered through the generosity of the artist, who also created the burnished black frame, this painting is worth $700.
"PENNSYLVANIA GERMAN CRAFTS” Donated by Kutztown Festival artisans: Wooden miniatures of Berks County, PA German log house styles of the 1700s. 1860 Wood Company, $105. Tole painted black metal candle sconce, traditional 1800s design. Country Crafts & Things, $70. Redware “Harvest” plate, 9”, signed and dated. Foltz Pottery, $125.
"HANDCRAFTED SLEIGH BELLS AND POTTERY” Donated by Kutztown Festival artisans: Traditional New England sleigh bells, cast of solid brass, on a leather harness. Forgedale Sleigh Bells, $160. Hand-thrown cider and chowder mugs. About Faces Pottery, $36.
"HANDMADE FOR HOME AND GARDEN” Donated by Kutztown Festival crafters: Sandstone casting of three doves on a branch. Sandstone Secrets, $30.
Bright and whimsical wooden angel with tin wings. Richard DeWalt, $40. “Toad Abode” provides a safe haven from lawn mowers, etc. Bird Condos Room-n-Board, $20.
