1. Read the guidelines to determine if your course qualifies (guidelines on the Competencies page of this website; guidelines also included with the downloadable forms below).

2. Download and complete a Competency Across the Curriculum Cover Sheet (below), using the appropriate color for your college (list at bottom of page) and obtaining an identification routing number from your college curriculum committee, and finally secure the approval of your department and the signature of your department chair. (If the course has multiple prefixes, obtain approval from all affected departments.) This signed copy of the Competency Across the Curriculum Cover Sheet is commonly referred to as the “original.”

3. Again using the appropriate color for your college (list at bottom of page), make 19 more copies of the Competency Across the Curriculum Cover Sheet.

4. In the list below, click on the FORM button in front of the desired Competency to download the Competency Across the Curriculum Approval Form for that Competency.

5. Complete and make 20 copies of the Competency Across the Curriculum Approval Form.

6. Make 20 copies of any supporting documentation, such as:

memo describing more fully how the course meets the Competency requirements

first-day handout

copies of assignments

worksheets

7. Attach the completed Competency Across the Curriculum Approval Form and any supporting documentation to the Competency Across the Curriculum Cover Sheet for each of the 20 sets.

8. Include one copy of the syllabus.

9. Forward all 20 sets (with the original set on top), along with one copy of the syllabus, to the General Education Committee (GEC) representative from your college (list below).

Note that all of the forms are in Microsoft Word format, allowing you to add information and save the document with your additions. When you open a form, wherever you a see gray box (called a “field”), you can enter information (the rest of the document is not editable). To check a checkbox field, simply click on it. To move from one field to another, simply click in the desired field. You can also use the Tab key to move from one field to another. Please note that Microsoft’s spell checker does not work in this instance.
