Bear Net Wireless Security Policy
Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to provide reliable and secure wireless network access at Kutztown University. Wireless networking uses the shared resource of the unlicensed radio frequencies on campus. Careful planning is required to support the implementation of wireless access across campus. To ensure consistent performance and integration with campus wired networks, ITS, has the responsibility for the design, deployment, and management of the Bear Net wireless network. A network-wide approach must be taken to minimize interference, secure the campus wireless networks, and insure the integrity of the campus computing systems connected to the Kutztown University wired networks.
A wireless networking policy is needed:
- To support the academic mission of the University
- To limit interference with the University's network infrastructure
- To promote greater security in campus networking
Scope
This policy applies to and governs all wireless network users at Kutztown University and all devices connecting to the Kutztown University network.
Policy
A.  All Wireless Network Devices and Access points must abide by all federal, state and local laws, rules or regulations pertaining to wireless networks.

Accessing the Internet and campus LAN is the same for a wireless laptop as a regular wired one. There are only some issues related to performance that you need to keep in mind when using wireless.
- Access Points Administration and Maintenance
Only administrators have access to the wireless LAN key distribution program for the distribution of the encryption keys.
- Centrally Managed Wireless Infrastructure
The design and deployment of a wireless network for a particular location is influenced primarily by interference and capacity planning factors.
