ResNet Off-Campus Computer Support Program

Background

All of ResNet, including the residential computer network, residence hall computer labs, and the ResNet helpdesk, is funded through the housing fee and is therefore available to on-campus students at no additional cost. In 2005, the Student Government Board began an initiative for the ResNet helpdesk to expand services to include off-campus students. An equitable ResNet Off-Campus Computer Support Program was officially proposed in March 2006 and ultimately approved in July 2006. The program is detailed here.

Scope of work

The ResNet helpdesk offers pay-for-service computer support to Kutztown University students residing off-campus.

The ResNet helpdesk does not offer on-site support for students residing off-campus. All off-campus support is provided in-house at the ResNet helpdesk.

The ResNet helpdesk cannot guarantee a completion date for work. All on-campus support issues take precedence over off-campus support issues.

Blackout periods

The ResNet helpdesk reserves the right to refuse off-campus support requests during the first 3 weeks of a semester.

Menu of services

System Tune-Up (Windows XP) - $50
Includes:

  • Install/update Sophos Anti-Virus (alternatively update other existing antivirus software) and remove any existing viruses
  • Install/update antispyware program (Ad-Aware and/or Microsoft Antispyware) and remove any existing adware/spyware
  • Remove unwanted files and unnecessary background processes
  • Install latest operating system updates
  • Defrag hard drive
  • Clean internal components (desktop units only)

OS installation/restore (Windows XP) - $60
Includes:

  • Operating system installation -or- software restore (student must supply installation disks)
  • Reformat hard drive (if requested)
  • Install latest operating system updates
  • Install all required drivers

Custom diagnostics (Any version of Windows and Macintosh OS) - $17.50 per 1/2 hour ($17.50 minimum)
Includes:

  • Analysis and resolution (if possible) of reported problem

Terms of service

All work performed by Kutztown University ResNet staff is done in good faith. Although ResNet staff will attempt to resolve any subsequent problems that may result from hardware/software installation and configuration, Kutztown University and Kutztown University ResNet staff cannot ultimately be held responsible for any hardware damage or loss of data.
