Antivirus requirements

All student-owned PCs are required to have current antivirus software installed and running. The Cisco Clean Access network security system checks for current antivirus software each time you log in via the Clean Access Agent. PCs with missing or outdated antivirus software will be quarantined and denied full network access.

As a result, we recommend that all students install current antivirus software before arriving on campus in order to eliminate the possibility of being denied network access.

Note: The antivirus requirement is only for PCs running any version of Microsoft Windows. Although Macintosh and Linux users are expected to run up-to-date anti-virus software, it is not currently an enforced requirement.

Kutztown University provides Sophos Anti-Virus software to all students at no cost. Follow the steps below to download and install Sophos Anti-VIrus, or install other antivirus software from the approved software list below.

Before you download Sophos Anti-Virus:
You are required to enter your KU email user id and password in order to download Sophos. If you don't know your user id and/or password, click here to begin the process of retrieving your user id and/or resetting your password.

Before you install Sophos Anti-Virus:
If you already have an antivirus program installed on your PC and would like to replace it with Sophos, it's essential that you completely remove the existing program BEFORE installing Sophos Anti-Virus. Failure to remove the previously installed program could result in severe system instability.

Note: The Sophos installer can automatically remove some third-party antivirus programs during the installation process. Click here for a complete list of programs Sophos can remove.
