On
December 26, 2002, Kutztown University rolled
out an enhanced email system based on Sun Microsystems
iPlanet software. Built into the new email server
is McAfee Virus Scanning. This is the same product
used on the PC desktop at the University.
As
messages pass through the "email engine",
the message is broken down into its different
parts. Any attachment is then passed off to
the anti-virus scanner. If the attachment is
found to be infected, the email engine replaces
the attachment with a text file that looks similar
to this:
The
original infected attachment, CALC.EXE, has been
removed from this message.
The infected attachment was removed because
***** VIRUS DETECTED and REMOVED: Found the
W32/Themba virus !!! *****
If you still wish to obtain this *INFECTED*
attachment please contact
the KU Information Technology help desk <helpcenter@kutztown.edu>
at 610-683-1511 with
reference to the following ticket id:

for more information.

IT Mail Services.
Each
infected attachment is then stored for 3 days
in a quarentine directory on the email server.
If you wish to receive the infected attachment,
you must bring a floppy or zip disk and the
ticket ID from above to the IT helpcenter. IT
will try to clean the virus, however, most viruses
cannot be cleaned and must be deleted. If you
have any questions, please call the helpcenter
at 610-683-1511 or contact IT by email by clicking
