 Keeping Your Windows PC Protected
Follow these steps to keep your Windows PC protected

  • Run personal firewall software.
    Click here for instructions on configuring Windows XP's built-in firewall.

  • Install critical Microsoft patches.
    Click here for instructions on applying them automatically with the Automatic Updates feature in Windows XP.

  • Keep anti-virus software up-to-date.
    Click here to download McAfee VirusScan (free to all KU students). Click here for instructions on keeping VirusScan updated automatically with AutoUpdate.

  • Protect against adware and spyware.
    Download and install Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy.

  • Remove virus-infected files.
    Download and run Stinger to disinfect your system.
