Choosing a Default Printer

For PC:

To choose a default printer:

  1. Click on the Start menu.

  2. Click on Settings.

  3. Click on Printers and Faxes.

  4. Click on the printer you want to set as the default printer.

  5. Click on File in the upper left corner of that window.

  6. Click on Set as default.

This will set that printer as your default printer.  In every program you use, when you ask the program to print, the print job will go to this default printer unless you specify otherwise.

To select a different printer other than your default in programs:

  1. When you are ready to print, click on File.

  2. Click on Print. (Printer Setup in the KU Database)

  3. At the top of the print window, the default printer will be listed.

  4. To change it to another printer, click on the down arrow next to the printer name.  All the printers you are able to print to will be in this list.

  5. Click on the printer you want to print to.

  6. Click OK.  Your job will now go to that printer. 
    **Remember this is only temporary; your default printer remains the same.

For MAC:

To choose a default printer:

  1. Click on System Preferences on the dock on your desktop.

  2. Click on Print and Fax.

  3. Click on Set Up Printers

  4. Select the printer you want to be your default printer and click Make Default.

  5. Close out of Printer Setup Utility and System Preferences.

This will set that printer as your default printer.  In every program you use, the print job will go to this default printer unless you specify otherwise.

To select a different printer other than your default in programs:

  3. To change it to another printer, click on the up/down arrow next to the printer name.  All the printers you are able to print to will be in this list.

  4. Click on the printer you want to print to.

  5. Click Print.  Your job will now go to that printer.
    **Remember, changing the printer this way also makes that printer your current default printer.
