Understanding Internet Explorer Toolbars

This top bar is on the top edge of every program.  This bar is called the Title Bar of that program window.  This tells you the program name and any file or site window that would be currently open in that program. The far right side has buttons (from left to right): Minimize, Maximize, and Close.  These are used to shrink the program down to the bottom of the screen, maximize the size of the window so it is as large as your monitor screen or close the window.

This bar is called the Menu Bar.  This bar appears in every program just under the Title Bar.  This bar contains names of pull-down menus of commands that are related to that program.

This bar is called the Standard Buttons Toolbar.  This bar contains buttons that allow you to:

-  go Back or Forward to web pages you have previously visited;

-  Stop the current web page from loading;

-  Reload or refresh the web page you are viewing to get the most current copy of that page.  Sometimes if a page seems to hang when it is loading up on the screen, Reloading it brings it up faster;

-  go to your Home page or initial web page that you first want to load when you run Internet Explorer;

-  Search for topics;

-  bring up your Favorites list of favorite web sites;

-  History list of web pages you have accessed;

-  menu to work with your email if you have email setup in Outlook

-  Print the current web page;

-  and other buttons that can be customized to be on this toolbar.

This bar is called the Address bar.  This bar contains a field showing the exact location of the web page you are viewing; a drop-down arrow to view a history of past web pages you have viewed; and a Go button to take you to the last address you have entered in the address field.

This bar is called the Links Toolbar.  This bar is used to store favorite sites for easier access instead of storing them in the Favorites list.  To add a site, go to the site, then drag this icon  from the address field to a blank gray area on the Links toolbar.  The properties of this link can be changed by right clicking the mouse on the link.

This bar is called the Radio Toolbar.  This contains a link to play online radio stations.

This bar is called My Search Bar.  This allows for easier searching of web sites and contains links of commonly used search engines.

This bar is called the Status Bar.  This bar shows the status of a page while its loading.
