Windows Explorer on a PC

1.        Menu Bar: This bar contains names of pull-down menus of commands that are related to that program.  To create new folders, click the folder and then File, New, Folder.  To cut, copy,or paste, click on the file/folder where the action is to occur, then Edit, Cut/Copy/Paste.

2.     Standard Buttons Toolbar:
: Back or Forward to folders you have viewed
 : Up one level/out of current folder
 : Search and Folder Pane
: Change view of window

3.        Address Toolbar:  This bar contains a field showing the exact location of the files or folders you are viewing; a drop-down arrow to view other folders or drives; and a Go button to take you to the last folder location you have entered in the address field.  A web page location can also be entered here, to view that page.

4.        Folder Pane: Shows Folders/Search/History
: More folders/drives to show
: All folders/drives shown
 
 : Folder is open to view contents

5.        Content Pane: Shows contents of the folder or drive being viewed

If using the Folder Pane (#4 above):

To create new folders: Select the folder that will contain the new folder.  Click on File, New, Folder, Type folder name.

If using the Contents Pane (#5 above):

To create new folders: Select the folder that will contain the new folder.  Click on File, New, Folder, Type folder name; or, double click on the folder that will contain the new folder.  This will open that folder.  Right click in the white space in the contents pane.  Click New, Folder, Type folder name.

To cut/copy/paste a file/folder: Select the file/folder and click Edit; or Right click on the file/folder for the pop-up menu.

To move a file/folder: (Drag-n-Drop) Press and hold the left mouse button on the file/folder, drag to new location, let go of mouse button

*Note:
To move or copy more than one file/folder at a time:

For group of files/folders that are together: Select first one; while holding Shift, select last one.  This works best in list view.

For choosing files/folders that are not grouped together: Select first one; while holding Ctrl, select any others.

Drag-n-Drop will move files/folders, if performed on same drive, and will copy files/folders, if performed from one drive to another.
