Creating and Saving a new document in Word

To create a new document in Word:

  1. Open Word

  2. You should now have a blank document on the screen ready for you to begin to type.

  3. Begin typing. 

ENTER key - allows you to create new paragraphs.
TAB key - indents text every ½” as a default or to what measurement you have set.

 - Changes your font and size of characters.

 - Boldface (click before typing or highlight text, then click)

 - Italicize (click before typing or highlight text, then click)

 - Underline (click before typing or highlight text, then click)

 - Left Flush text (click at any time in a paragraph)

 - Center text (click at any time in a paragraph)

 - Right Flush text (click at any time in a paragraph)

 - Prints your document

  1. When you are finished typing, click on File, Save.  A window will pop up for you to enter a name for your document.  You can also change the folder location of your new document in this window.  Type a name and click Save.  File, Exit will close down Word.
