Message Regarding Student User Name Change

For Current Students:

• The user name that you use to login to e-mail (http://webmail.kutztown.edu), Academic Unix systems (mainly CIS students), and campus labs will use the new format starting Fall '05.


• When addressing e-mails to other students, you will need to start using the new format. However, current user names/e-mail addresses will continue to work throughout the fall semester. On 1/1/2006, old user names/e-mail addresses will cease to work.


• Your personal web folder name will change.


• Your Blackboard user name will change to reflect your new e-mail user name.


• Course Distribution lists and listserves will use the converted user names/e-mail addresses for Fall '05. Student interaction will not be required.


• E-mail/Academic Unix system passwords and forwarding to 3rd party e-mail providers will continue to work without change.


• There will be an online tool available to determine your new user name/e-mail address by supplying your old user name/e-mail address.


• The targeted migration date is the July 30th weekend.

For Incoming Freshmen and Transfer Students:

• Your e-mail user name and address will be created with the new scheme. The new scheme is the first character of your first name followed by upto the first four characters of your last name followed by a randomly generated three digit number. A document was presented at the summer connections sessions. You can dowload a copy here.
  Ex. jane smith => jsmit123


• Your e-mail account should be created and ready for your use. However, initially, you will need to go to https://secure.kutztown.edu/authentication to set your initial password and activate your account.

For Faculty and Staff:

• The target migration date is the July 30th weekend.


• Your student's Blackboard user name will change to reflect their new KU e-mail user name.


• Course and subset distribution lists and listserves will continue to work after the migration.


• Old e-mail addresses will continue to work until 1/1/2006. However, it would be wise to start using the new format for Fall '05.

For Graduates:

• The User Name Change will affect those who graduated May 2005. Logins to e-mail will change over the July 30th weekend.

For Parents:

• The target migration date is the July 30th weekend.


• Your son/daughter's old e-mail address will continue to work until 1/1/2006. However, it will be wise to start using their new address for Fall '05.
