Congratulations on your acceptance!

I’ve Been Accepted! Now What?

Once you have been accepted to Kutztown University, an Accept Packet will be sent to you via express mail.  This packet will include your formal admission letter of acceptance, as well as other important information including a housing deposit form, meal plan contract, flex dining dollar deposit form, and health record and health insurance requirements form.  Kindly complete and submit these forms as soon as possible, in addition to your advanced registration deposit (see Form I-20 section below). We encourage you to refer to the FAQs if you have any additional questions.

Form I-20

The Form I-20 is a government form on which Kutztown University certifies to the U.S. government that you are eligible for F-1 student status. It certifies you have met our admissions requirements, have been accepted for a full course of study, and have enough money to study and live in the U.S. without working illegally or suffering from poverty.

The Form I-20 is necessary to obtain F-1 student visa status and to keep lawful F-1 status when transferring or changing schools within the U.S. You also need the Form I-20 to enter the U.S. for the first time or to re-enter the U.S. after traveling abroad. For additional information about the Form I-20, please click here.

Once you have been accepted to Kutztown University, you will receive an official acceptance letter.  Before Kutztown University may issue your Form I-20 (for F-1 students) or Form DS-2019 (for J-1 students), you must pay a non-refundable advanced registration deposit (ARD) of $200.00 USD, made payable to Kutztown University, either through check or money order (or credit card, if applying online).

Once we are notified with confirmation that your deposit has been received, Kutztown University will immediately issue your Form I-20 or Form DS-2019 and send it to you via FedEx since this form is required by the U.S. Embassy for students who wish to apply for student visa.

Obtaining Your Student Visa

Once you have received the Form I-20 or Form DS-2019, you may contact your local U.S. Consulate or Embassy to ask how to apply for a student visa.  Please click here for additional, detailed instructions.

Tuition & Fees

Prior to your initial arrival, you will receive your first semester bill (not the entire year).  You may pay all or a portion of this bill prior to your arrival by making a wire transfer, check or money order, or pay via credit card.  Please note that only MasterCard or Discover credit cards are accepted by the university.  If you choose to pay via wire transfer, please contact the Office of International Programs immediately and we will send you the bank routing information and account numbers. For all other questions regarding tuition and fees, please contact the Bursar’s Office via phone (610.683.4133) or email.

Financial Aid

While international students are not eligible to receive federal assistance, Kutztown University is proud to offer assistance in the form of three international scholarship for undergraduate students and graduate assistantship positions for graduate students.  Please click here to learn more.

Housing

Students’ residence hall is their “home away from home.”  Kutztown boasts many options for on-campus living. There are 14 residence facilities that include three apartment-style, two suite-style, and nine traditional halls. The type of housing varies, including co-ed, special interest, or apartments.  Dressers, beds and desks are provided, and all rooms are equipped with cable internet access.  For additional information, please visit the Housing & Residential Services website

Students also have the option to live off-campus. For additional information about off-campus housing, please click here.

International students who wish to live on-campus must accept the housing offer by paying the $125.00 USD housing deposit via Online Student Services.  For instructions on how to access Online Student Services, please click here.

Dining

Students living on-campus may choose from several dining options. The number of meals is up to each student, along with the amount of flex dollars that may be used in various casual and take-out venues around campus.  For additional information about which meal plan to select, please visit the Dining Services website.

Health & Wellness Services

All students are required to have healthcare coverage.  Kutztown University provides healthcare coverage and will automatically include the cost in your tuition bill, unless you show proof of having your own separate health plan.  You may view the Kutztown University health insurance plan by clicking here.

Additionally, you will find information about which vaccinations you are required to have before you arrive on campus.  Please make sure you review this information and return it to the Health & Wellness Center upon your acceptance and decision to attend Kutztown University.  For more detailed information about health and wellness services provided on campus, please visit the Health & Wellness Services website.

Arriving at KU

Kutztown University is located in the beautiful rural Pennsylvania Dutch land of Berks County, a safe and secure environment.  The borough of Kutztown provides students and visitors a variety of wonderful festivals to enjoy, trails to hike, ample stores and shops, and so much more. The town is conveniently located midway between reading and Allentown, and is only one and a half hours from Philadelphia and Harrisburg, two hours from New York City and three hours from the Baltimore/Washington area.

Please click here to find information about the transportation options available to get to the KU campus from various airports.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Office of International Programs.

International Student Orientation

All incoming international students are required to attend the International Student Orientation, which is held three or four days prior to the fall and spring semester start dates.  It is a great way to meet other international students and adapt to campus life before the semester begins.  Additionally, students will have the opportunity to meet the staff at the Office of International Programs and learn about the services available to them.

The International Student Orientation for Fall 2010 will begin on Wednesday, August 25, 2010.

Students receive a tour of campus, as well as their housing information and course schedule (see below) on the first day of orientation.  Other important sessions are also scheduled throughout the orientation program to share information about university rules and policies, immigration matters, public safety, information technology, student services and campus activities, and health and wellness services, just to name a few.  A shopping trip is also scheduled to ensure that students have the necessary household items that they were unable to bring with them from home. To view a sample agenda, please click here.

Course Schedule/Registration

During the International Student Orientation, students will meet with their academic advisor to receive and review their course schedule.  Students will not need to schedule their courses for the initial semester; it will be done for them over the summer by the academic advisor assigned to each student based on his/her program of study.  However, any changes must be made during the International Student Orientation.
