What's This Card?

This is the Golden Bear Debit Card. Every student receives one in the mail before they arrive on campus. The program is administered by HigherOne, under contract with the Bursar's Office. We provide this page to help with any confusion regarding this card and the KU ID Card. The KU ID Card is all you need for your daily campus life!

What is it for?

The Golden Bear Debit Card is not administered by the KU Card Office. We don't want to give you incorrect information, so please see the Bursar's Office web site for further information on the GBDC.

Do I use this card for Bear Bucks?

No. You use your KU ID Card for Bear Bucks. Your KU ID Card is all you need for your daily campus life.

What is Bear Bucks?

Bear Bucks is a declining balance on the KU ID Card that is usable for purchases both on- and off-campus. See our Bear Bucks page for more information.

Can I put my refund money into my Bear Bucks account?

Not directly. If you have a debit card associated with your bank account, though, you can use that to make a Bear Bucks deposit online. If you have chosen to open a HigherOne account, you can use your Golden Bear Debit Card to do that just as you would with any other debit card.
