COLLECTION FORMATS

The Audiovisual Center houses the University's instructional material collection.  This collection consists of a variety of media including VHS tapes, DVDs, audio tapes, SMPs, as well as audio CDs.   Each academic department is given an allocation to assist the Center in acquisition development.  When ordering titles that will support their curriculum, we encourage departments to preview before purchasing.   We can assist in defining both producers and distributors of educational materials.  Additionally, we take an active role in the preview process and welcome inquires and requests.

CIRCULATION PERIOD

Materials circulate to faculty for a period of six months.  At the end of this period the circulation system will send a notice to faculty.   At this time the faculty member is encouraged to either return the title or to renew it for another six months.  If a title is lost the faculty member will be sent a notice identifying replacement costs. The collection circulates to KU students and KU staff for a period of one week. Titles that are currently in circulation may be recalled to provide access to other patrons.

SEARCHING RORHBACH LIBRARY CATALOG TO LOCATE TITLES

One effective way to search Rohrbach Library Catalog for video materials is to conduct a Guided Search within the Rohrbach Library Catalog.

Below is an image of Rohrbach Library Catalog's Guided Search window.  In the first Search field type a keyword or phrase that represents your topic.  In the next Search field type the term: videorecording, all one word, no spaces.

Your search will typically result in a comprehensive listing (see image below) of video titles in VHS or DVD format, no print items.  While most of these videos will be found in the AV media library they could be found elsewhere in the building such as the Curriculum Materials Center, CMC collection.
