We will catalog them and place them on the shelves for use as soon as possible. Thanks Fran!!!! Writing and Grammar (6-12) Timeless Voices, Timeless Themes (6-12) Connected Mathmatics (6-8) The CMC Web Site Don’t sit for hours trudging through the Internet trying to find a site to help you with a lesson, a unit, or an activity. Go to the CMC Web site and click on the “Education Sites” link on the left. Choose your subject area to find sites devoted to a specific topic or scroll down through the general education links to find a wealth of helpful links for all educators. Some of our favorite sites are:
Celebrating Holidays AND Diversity Have you noticed that holiday celebrations are becoming watered-down versions of traditions that were once held so dear? Why? Because teachers and schools are fearful of a lawsuit over discrimination or the separation of church and state. There are ways to overcome this fear, though, and keep traditions alive. The solution is exactly what we hold so dear: education! By explaining traditions and using holidays to educate students about various local and global traditions and cultures, the students will learn why certain actions take place and why certain beliefs are passed from one generation to the next. It isn’t a matter of just teaching tolerance, either. It is a matter of instilling an appreciation of the wonderful diversity that surrounds our students in their daily lives. The CMC has a variety of resources to help teach about holidays and customs around the world. Take time to stop by and check them out before another holiday and another teaching opportunity passes you by! Notable News on the Newest Materials
Classes, clubs, and groups are welcome to come to the Curriculum Materials Center for an orientation session or to work on projects that require the use of our materials. Contact Karen Krug, Librarian, to schedule a time (krug@kutztown.edu or 610-683-4709). Plan now for the spring semester! Include the CMC in your syllabus. J Julie Nieznay, the CMC graduate assistant, will be leaving the CMC to student teach in the spring. We all wish her well, and I am very grateful to her for all of the hard work she has done.
