Education Links


Looking for education sites can be time consuming and even a bit confusing. Below you will find a list of resources and sites that provide reviewed Web pages, lessons, and references. We hope that you will take advantage of them and will find them helpful.

Favorite Starting Points

Librarians' Index to the Internet - "searchable, annotated subject directory of more than 12,000 Internet resources selected and evaluated by librarians for their usefulness to users of public libraries. LII is used by both librarians and the general public as a reliable and efficient guide to Internet resources." --text taken from their motto|

The Educator's Reference Desk -
ERIC access, lesson plans, Web site links, and resource guides are all contained in this "one-stop-shopping" site for teachers and librarians in all levels of education.

GEM (Gateway to Educational Materials) - GEM is a " Consortium effort to provide educators with quick and easy access to thousands of educational resources found on various federal, state, university, non-profit, and commercial Internet sites."

Other General Education Sites

AIMS- A database of the AIMS activities can be found by going to the "activities" tab and then going to the AIMS Activities Database link.

Annenberg Media- Free teacher resources from Annenberg Media - This site includes video streaming for you and your classroom!

Awesome Library - "Awesome library organizes the Web with 24,000 carefully reviewed resources, including the top 5 percent in education."--according to the site itself. It is organized by subjects and topics, and it is also searchable.

The National Archives - A great place to find archival documents for the classroom, the National Archives offers digital documents, lessons, and training for teachers as well as links for students.

ED Pubs Web - Free education publications are available from ED Pubs, the U.S. Department of Education's Publications Center. To order free books, brochures, videos, and more, visit the ED Pubs Web site.

EDSITEment - This government site is created by "the National Endowment for the Humanities in partnership with the National Trust for the Humanities, and the MarcoPolo Education Foundation."  It provides "online humanities resources from some of the world's great museums, libraries, cultural institutions, and universities" to educators.

Eduhound - T-H-E journal (an education magazine) sponsors this "highly specialized educational directory with built-in resource links offered free to educators, students and parents". It covers so many aspects of education that just about anyone can find something in their area (administration, teachers, parents, students, etc.).

Federal Resources for Educational Excellence - This site serves as a great starting point when looking for federal sites dealing with each subject area or free resources. Many of the links lead to government homepages and resources that can be used in lessons.

RUBRICS - Holt, Rinehart and Winston offers this web page full of sample rubrics that can be used as is or as examples for creating assessment devices.

Kathy Schrock's Home Page - According to the site, "a portal of possibilities for effective infusion of technology into the curriculum." This is a great site for ALL educators. It includes links to Web evaluations, a Guide for Educators, and a variety of other useful information.

MERLOT - The Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching (MERLOT) site has linked a wide variety of indexed and searchable web sites for all subject areas.

The New York Times Learning Network - The popular newspaper has created a site for educators and students in grades 3-12 that includes the latest education news as well as lesson ideas, activities, and Web links. 

Pathways to School Improvement - NCREL has developed this site to include links to the latest critical issues in many academic areas. Information, resources, and online links are provided under each section or subject area.

PBS Home site - A great starting place for all kinds of information. From science to history to technology, the PBS site can get you quality information in a very nice format. Be sure to check out the Teacher Source area (lessons and activities) and the PBS Kids area (for kids) of this site. 

Pennsylvania Department of Education - The homepage for the PDE contains information for current teachers and education majors. It includes information for K-12, higher education, libraries, standards, etc.
