  • Scholarly Sport Sites
    Web sites to assist the serious sports researcher, kinesiology librarian, sport information specialist, college/university student and faculty. Created under the auspices of the University of Calgary Library, the North American Sport Library Network, and the International Association for Sports Information.
  • The Virtual Library of Sport
    Categorized by subject, this is the sports home page of the World Wide Web Virtual Library. Although some of the links are repetitive to those provided in other sites, this page provides access to a search engine so that the user can locate very specific information. Also useful are the sections for other Sports Servers and Sports-related Newsgroups.

  • American Fitness Professionals and Associates
    This professional organization aims to provide its members with continuing, effective, practical, and up to date education on exercise science, sports medicine, and applied human nutrition. The site contains information about the organization, original articles, and other types of professional information.
  • Exercise Physiology 
    Authored by Stephen Seiler, an associate professor at the Institute of Health and Sport, Agder College, Kristiansand, Norway. Site is intended to be a starting point for information on the physiological basis for endurance performance and training. It is arranged around three main categories: Heart, Skeletal Muscles, the Package, and then includes articles on a number of other topics.
  • Physiology Online - Physiological Society 
    Includes news and information, publications and links to other physiological sites on the Internet. Physiology News magazine is available online.

Health and Nutrition

  • Food and Nutrition Information. One of several information centers at the National Agricultural Library, access all resource lists and databases, as well as many other food and nutrition related links from this award winning site.
  • USDA Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion 
    This authoritative site focuses on dietary guidelines and healthy eating. It provides access to < government publications, data files, and other types of original information on nutrition. From US Department of Agriculture.

Physical Education

  • Association for Experiential Education (AEE) 
    The AEE is a professional organization with roots in adventure education, committed to the development, practice, and evaluation of experiential learning in all settings. The links under Research, FAQs, and Publications are particularly useful.
  • PE Central 
    For physical education teachers, students, interested parents and adults. Designed and maintained by Virginia Tech's Health and Physical Education Program, its goal is to provide the latest information about contemporary appropriate physical education programs for children and youth. Included are activities, lesson ideas, assessment ideas, professional information, Web sites, guides, and a listserv. The site is updated frequently, is nicely arranged, and contains a wealth of information.

Recreation

  • The Academy of Leisure Sciences
    Primarily an honorary organization, the Academy also undertakes projects related to leisure and recreational studies. Publishes a series of "white papers" which are available on the site; also sponsors other programs directed toward scholars and students.
  • LARNET: the Cyber Journal of Applied Leisure and Recreation Research 
    LARNet, sponsored by North Carolina Central University, is peer reviewed, and free of charge to individuals, libraries, academic, and commercial organizations
  • National Recreation & Park Association (NRPA) 
    This national, non-profit organization is dedicated to advancing parks, recreation and environmental efforts to enhance the quality of life for all people. Highlights of the home page are links to information on healthy lifestyles, playground safety, and efforts to provide services to older adults. A listing of regional offices with addresses and phone numbers is a useful addition as are the descriptions of various NRPA publications.
  • Yahoo Recreation and Leisure Studies 
    Yahoo index to recreation and leisure studies sites.

Sports Medicine

  • MedWeb
    Directory of sports medicine Web sites maintained by the Robert W. Woodruff Health Sciences Center Library, Emory University. The list is arranged by categories beginning with alternative medicine and ending with terminology. A valuable site for locating resources on the Web for sports medicine.
  • The Physician and Sportsmedicine Online
    A peer-reviewed monthly journal serving the practicing physician's professional and personal interests in the medical aspects of exercise, sports, and fitness." Online articles lag one month behind print publication. Resource Center links to directories and a variety of sports medicine resources.
